I agree with you ! Homer is a much better GM than most here give him credit for......He ain't perfect and certainly hind sight is always 20-20.......But i like Homers approach to things, and like that he is keeping his powder dry with out panicking and making deals just for the sake of making deals....
No. It suggests that he decided to go with Parise to Minnesotta this morning. Why let the Predators match at this point when you've already made up your mind?
I was simply summarizing the (reactive) sentiments that I saw on Nashville's board. They believe he always intended to go to the upper Midwest--Detroit, Chicago, Minnesota, wherever--but led the organization to believe that he would resign if the offer was competitive.
Neither you, nor I, nor them, have any clue if that's true, false, or somewhere in between--and it really doesn't affect "our" team either way.
Lost in all the euphoria about not over-spending--best of luck, Matt. The kid always seemed to play hard, and he's earned (most of) that payday.
He had flaws in his game but the Twitter he sent after one of the west coast games thanking Flyers' fans for staying up late on a week night spoke highly of his character. Many athletes wouldn't care or be aware.
That's still a big hole in the D. That's almost 25 minutes a night and 40 points a season to replace. There's nobody available who can put up those numbers that can be acquired. Now I'm worried Holmgren's going to do something dumb. He just needs to relax, take in a deep breath, and not act irrationally. Don't bother making a trade for Weber because they don't have the parts. It's time to call Phoenix and see what it will take to acquire a guy like Chris Summers or Maxim Goncharov or maybe it's time to look at a guy like Carlo Colaiacovo (he still averages 19 minutes a night of ice time). Anyways, the important thing is that Holmgren must not panic.
Wow. I remember him at the 09 WJC's. Guy was unbelievable. 6'4 with skill and a bomb of a shot. Game hasn't quite transferred over the the NA game it looks like despite good numbers in the KHL. He's probably at the bottom of the barrel over there with the depth they have on the backend. Would love to take a chance on him.
Alot of people celebrating Carle signing elsewhere don't seem the realize the huge hole this leaves in our Defense now. And we don't exactly have a second JVR to trade for another DMan
I think most reasonable people understand that it leaves a hole, but at the end of the day, the contract that Matt got simply wouldn't have been good cap management for a cap team like the Flyers. I'd rather have a tougher time in 2012-2013 than carry that cap hit for the next 6 years. That's all it comes down to.
