In the playoffs I felt the same way, but watching Kreider and MDZ play made me really happy we didn't just throw those guys away for a guy that might be headed to a bit of a tapering in his career.

Now that I've had time away from the season, I'd like to state that unequivocally I hope we avoid making any major move to gain Nash. I'm not the guy that constantly wants to ship players out of town that work hard for us and put in a ton of effort.

I want to see more goal scoring, but I really believe AA will contribute more, Dubi won't have nearly the season he's coming off of, Stepan will take a step forward, Kreider will show us enough to make us really happy about our future, and Richie won't slump nearly as bad as he did early last season. Those things together with a healthy Staal, a veteran McD, a veteran MDZ, Callahan close to being a consistent threat…

Let things play out. Pitt got worse. Philly isn't terrifying. The Devils are old, on the verge of a post Marty era, and just lost their captain and hardest working player. The Isles are building a core, but they don't have a clear league-wide number 1 in net. Nash could be the one player we need to jump over that hump. But keep in mind, the hump is now a Stanley Cup, after the performance of this passed season's Nash-free team.
If the Rangers are going to take that next step, they need to bring in a top 6 forward. Doesn't have to be Nash, Ryan, or (I hope to God not)Semin. But it is hole that needs to be filled.

I completely agree. But we have at least 6 months to bring that guy in. And it doesn't have to be a 7M+ player either. Just give me someone who can net 30 goals and this team means business.

That's just incredibly unfortunate timing of a trade.

Oh, and Carle's deal is legendary bad. Wade Redden, Jeff Finger bad.

Yep. He's a mediocre 2nd pairing d-man (would be 3rd pairing here). Insane money.

What is more insane, are the Tampa fans trying to convince themselves Carle is good. They are going to be in for a RUDE awakening. I guarantee you most them have never seen him play all that much.

I don't know about everyone else but Garrison's contract looks like the steal of free agency.

This year's free agency market is BAD, just like the trade deadline.

And just like the trade deadline, there are always some Rangers fans who are going to complain "why hasn't Sather done anything yet!?"

I'm thrilled Slats hasn't made a "big splash" in free agency thus far. Some of the contracts being handed out are Redden-esque.

Anaheim winger Bobby Ryan, also on the trading block, is a better bargain and effective backup option to Nash if talks fall through. Still, the Ducks are reportedly seeking a package that includes a second-line center in return, and unless Brandon Dubinsky satisfies that description for Anaheim, the Rangers’ second-line center is Stepan — and dealing him is a no-no.

Doan is not going to decide until July 9th.

This looks like it will be a long offseason.

This is right on the money. If we have no choice but to overpay for anyone, even Nash, I'd rather go to war with our team from last year, plus Kreider for the full season, and maybe one or two other kids.

I agree, but he did play there a few years ago. Traded to Philly for Eminger + I think.

Pittsburgh Penguins ‏@pghpenguins

#Pens GM Shero: We thought Parise would be a really good fit here in Pittsburgh short-term and long-term

#Pens GM Shero on finding a winger to play with 87: That'd be fantastic. That'd make my life a lot easier. We're getting there.

That self-entitlement.

Why is the Penguins brass talking to the media about losing out on a free agent that had nothing to do with their team? It's ridiculous. They think they can have everything. The rigged 2005 lottery isn't enough for you? **** off.

I will be more than happy with Doan.

Actually, he's the main guy I want right now and I will take him over Nash since it will cost no assets. Do not want Nash. I want Ryan badly, but the price will cost Stepan+ which im not sure i'd do.

Sign Doan and let's roll with what we have.
