I don't care because he went home and the money was right, I can respect him for that.

What pisses me off is the smoke he blew for a entire yr in NJ while he and Suter have been setting this up.

Come on man, he didn't sign the long term deal last year as an rfa.... He wasn't blowing smoke. He said what he had to say as Captain. When they couldn't get the deal done last summer it was obvious he was leaving either for the money or the glory.

Honestly, the day they gave Kovy all Zachs money the writing was on the wall. Even if they could afford it, hDevils can't wrap up 200 mill on LW.

I hate this signing as a division rival.

I love the signing because I believe that some of the Minnesota has some of the best, most poorly treated fans and they deserve this.

Geesh, it's free agency people. Does every star who signs with another team have to be demonized?

He totally chased the money so he can play swords with Suter. I hope the Wild fans are ready to deal with his playoff game. He'l show up in the first couple games of a series, but he's a predictable player who isn't built for a 7 game series.

Also, while I wanted him back, that contract is going to be of the Yashin caliber in 4 or 5 years. He's a good, not great talent, but he's the hardest worker in the league. He relies on his speed and agility to make up for his lack of pure skill. Once his motor goes, and it will because that's just life, his talent is going to follow.

He'll be a 3rd liner by his early-mid 30's, which is why I didn't want the Devils offering a 10+ year deal. Not sure if a 3rd liner is worth 7.5 mil per for 7+ years.
You are acting as if NJ is in some position to be a powerhouse for years to come. They went to the finals this year I would not expect that to happen again for a while. If he signed with NJ somehow I doubt you would be dogging him out for his Playoff performance. He went back home to play, got alot of money, and Minn is has a pretty bright future.

People lose there minds when a player leaves as a FA. Happens with some fans of all teams I just have never understood it.

I don't think anybody should be thinking Parise is a 7.5M player, but it's the open market, where players get overpaid.

It sucks, but it will get better, and the Devils have the strength to compete in the East unlike the Wild who whenever they'd get gutted they'd be useless the next year.

Also this big deal makes our team a playoff team. That was the goal of our management, all they wanted was a playoff berth and to see if they could get the team to make a run. This will do just that. Anything can happen in the playoffs, so we'll just see where it goes.
I'm not butthurt at all. I'm pissed he left, but for 98 million he's all yours.

I wanted Parise, the player, back. But I said before FA even started that he's not the kind of player you should committ 13 years to. He'll be fine for a few seasons, but I'm telling you, that's going to be the worst contract in the league soon. He's one of the most agile players in the league and when he's agility takes a hit due to age, his game will be entirely gone.

There has been a Parise's playoff show/no show debate on our board for practically 3 years.

Well I think the Wild messed up... its no secret ive said for a long time whoever signs him will regret it.

I wont lie im a bit happy to go through this (I havent yet) and see what all the Devils fans are saying who acted like I was an idiot cause 'Parises wife likes the area no way will the move' or 'My friend talked to them and they said theyre staying' and other nonsense they didnt understand was just lip service.

Then you should not be all that upset that he is gone. Especially since as you pointed out he is overpaid.

The one thing I don't get is why haven't I heard of this massive friendship with Suter before like two days ago? Was I just not paying attention?

Explain to me where exactly there has been any indication that Zach Parise left because Ilya Kovalchuk was the "marquee" player on New Jersey. Don't waste your time because there isn't any. Every single player on the Devils has spoken glowingly about Kovalchuk as a player and a teammate, including Parise. He never struck me as a ego-maniac that would leave because there is a better player on the team. And if that were the case, I wouldn't even want him here.

Play your same song and dance of "I told you so" (there were two options, either he stays or goes, congratulations you picked one), but Ilya Kovalchuk being a Devil has nothing to do with Parise leaving. It came down to New Jersey and Minnesota, and the home town team won (with seemingly the most important piece being Ryan Suter). I like how you say "well, if the money was the same then something doesn't add up and that's obviously Kovalchuk". Every statement out of Parise's mouth has been "hometown this and that". Or were you ignoring that on purpose?

That's the way it went. I get you have your little hatred of Kovy because he spurned you, but making things up is just stupid.

And yeah, Ilya Kovalchuk is our future. If we have to "deal with it", I do it gladly. One of the top players in the league.
Whatever helps you sleep at night. The writing is on the wall. Zach will say whatever he must to assuage his guilty conscience. He left for a reason, and the Devils are monumentally worse because of it.
