I think it's awesome that a team like Minnesota took such a big swing. It's a great hockey city with great fans. So glad for once that the big FA didn't go to Pitt/Philly/Detroit/NY...

just a perfect storm for Carle, he goes to free agency likely the last year that the cap is so high, is the 2nd best dmen in free agency behind Suter, and half the league need defence. Easy way to make a lot of money

Now seeing the Carle, Suter, and Wideman contracts, my only thought is how hilarious it is that we were complaining about Doughty at 7M/year.

Same. Good for them. That's probably the most hockey crazy state/city in the U.S. and they have had nothing to cheer about in the last decade.

Philly must be up to something you would think.

Pronger out long term = Weaker
JVR traded for Schenn = them getting Weaker
Lost Carle = Weaker
Lost Jagr = Weaker

Lost out on Suter

I like Flyers West a lot better

man, Parise Sutter for $7.5 each? I don't know why, I just can't see minnesota being a contender with these signings. They both eat up too much cap space and they're free agent signings. Time and time again has shown that these "free" pickups are always so much more costly than perceived. They're going to have a year or 2 lull before they pick their game up, by which time they're going to run into cap problems.

I'm glad we weren't in it with Parise. I wasn't expecting to give him anything more than the Quick contract... and there's no way in hell Parise signs for that.

Despite our whining, our players are signed for pennies. And even we have cap issues...

Grats on acquiring Nash for the L.A. Kings. I'm sure he will help you guys tremendously on offense.

If you didn't see the boo-boo, this will make no sense.

EDIT: Nevermind, you guys are all over it.

Considering what defensemen are getting in this offseason, 3.5 for a player of Mitchell caliber is a huge bargain.

Nope, he really isn't. He is a 35-40 point producer at his very best. He isn't particularly strong defensively, not physical at all. Some good offensive skills but not a very good shot from the point.

I find it baffling that he's getting paid as much as he is, especially for six years, but TB is a team that is trying desperately to improve and an overpayment was the only way they were going to attract one of the top remaining UFA defensemen to go play there.

They also overpaid Sami Salo who is one of the most fragile players in the league, and he's 37. I think the former "GM of the Year" is in over his head.

I wonder how many points Carle would be putting up if he wasn't playing for the Flyers? Offensive is supposed to be what he's good at, but he hasn't scored more than 6 goals since 06-07. He only had 1 goal in 82 games during the 10-11 season.

I remember when Scuderi signed for 3.4M, and people on the main board were calling the worst signing of that summer. LOL.

Nash's 7.8 mil...starting to look real good against our remaining 8.6 cap space...give the rest to Dwight King and we're ready to rock!

Justin Williams at 3.65 is also looking like a nice contract right about now. He could be in the 4.5million dollar range on the open market too. Maybe 5 even.

Kopitar could get 8-9M on the open market easily this summer. Now his 6.8M for the next 4yrs looks like a bargain.
