Omg.

We have now signed 2 of the top 4 free agents this year. Is this really happening?

Kidding. Carry on.

belongs in the Oil Barons thread. Stauffer, wake me up when tambo does something to improve the NHL team (like several other thems have done, including 3 teams in the Northwest division).

Tambi doesn't have any problems with acquiring AHL calibre talent. He's quite skilled at it.

I knew when Parise and Suter signed we'd see some action.

Given that article that arose a few weeks ago, I'm hoping Hartikainen starts the season with the big club. He's made it pretty clear that he's off to Russia next year if he can't secure a roster spot in the NHL this season.

Apparently Byers has only played 14 NHL games but has been suspended twice by the NHL. Some scoring and toughness combination for the Barons.

It's funny that they signed him. I was thinking of Byers as a good downside comparable for Moroz after the Oilers drafted him, in terms of a player who didn't have the offensive numbers to match his draft position and who could never really get out of the AHL.

This is an Oilers (Despite it being 2-way) signing not an AHL-side Barons signing so it should be a new post. I think we should all be concerned about how well the farm team does as that gives prospects playing time and possibly playoff experience. It's not like we're inundated with new posts in July anyway.

Good signing I say. More veteran leadership is always welcome on the farm.

I think it's a waste of a signing TBH.

The Oilers need to make sure the farm team is decent too to help our young players develop. We can't just sign NHL talent, we have a farm team to fill too.

I would like to see OKC try Paajarvii at pivot. Good back checker, and good size. Ever since i saw him skate ive thought he needs a look at centre. If you do that you got to give him 20 games and not judge based on faceoffs. They moved him to RW which i thought was a no brainer and a good call by the Oilers to allow it (pretty sure they step in if they dont like an experiment). If he stays on the wing i do think he is better having some experience with the right -he does have a decent slapper on that open angle.

that sucks, he could have filled in for Ryan Smyth if we didn't sign him.

I would rather see Paajarvi on the blueline than at centre.

To be honest, I've always been somewhat intrigued by that idea. He apparently played defence growing up and with his size and skating, he could be a great puck-moving defenceman. If Brent Burns can do it...

Also a guy like this is big news in the AHL and takes an NHL contract to sign for your farm team. Guys like this are good for the team and they will not sign if they arent given at least a chance at a call up.

for two years....I mean once Darcy hangs his skates, Dane can step in if we're not going after D.J. King.

yeah he was a d up to 3 years before his draft. Not physical enough. But it does show his defensive IQ. Would make a very good pivot. We have Klefbom and Marincin, Gernat, Musil......... What we dont have is a 2nd centre with his size. when he finishes filling out he will be rediculous if he can put it together.

Recently when interviewed about getting a big body into the Oilers top 6, management and Krueger bring up Hartikainen. Sounds to me that they have him penciled into the lineup already.

Hemsky must be getting traded then because Edmonton have enough wingers one would imagine? Yakupov, Hall, Eberle, Smyth, Hemsky, Jones, Paajarvi, Eager, Petrell, Hordichuk . . .

Can I just point out the join date of the majority of posters on this page? 2002 guys I've never seen before. Dane Byers brings the boys to the yard.
