No Semin. No Ribeiro. So in other words, stuck with no 2c, no good winger for 2nd line.

I think if kuz had decided to come over the team would be in much better shape. Him not coming over screwed up GMGMs plan of not resigning semin. Granted I think we should bring him back, I think he would play great with Ribs and under Oates. Right now our team looks pretty good defensively, and good in the bottom 6. Top 6 just needs 1 RW

I feel Chris Stewart could be a decent pick up. Could probably get him for Schultz/Erskine. STL apparently needs some D.

Random thoughts.

Didn't Mueller play well with Hamill back in the WHL? Seems to strike a distant memory.

I still like Perreault as a centre. I hope they don't give up on him too soon.

Bobby Ryan? 6'2" shoots right 31 and 34 goals in the past two years. $5.1 cap hit. Cheaper than Semin. Sounds like he might be a good fit?

you just said forsberg doesn't count because he won't play next year, then in explaining how we are worse you claim cause next year we won't have anyone (when could just as easily have semin and ribeiro)?

Yes they got a good prospect. Good prospects don't score goals in the playoffs.

I'm not saying we are the Red Wings and our future is bleak.

Too bad GMGM invented Semin into a perennial 20 goal scorer

Bwahahahha. No way St. Louis trades him for Schultz or Erskine unless we're throwing in Kuznetsov or Forsberg.

Give Semin 3 years @ 7 Mio. a year. Maybe a bit frontloaded (8,5, 7, 5,5)

That gives the to young guns 2-3 years to establish themselves. Even we get them eralier we can always trade AS with that contract in the last year.

While I like Semin's skill, have any of the pro-Semin posters noted that the locker room may have been impaired by his presence? Note the comments from former Caps in the recent past.

Not saying it is true, but you have to at least consider addition by subtraction; that no money is worth what he may have been causing in the room.

Lay off the crack.

Good prospects do score goals in the playoffs.

The caps have not gotten worse. +Rib -Semin is close to a lateral move, and we are but 5 days into FA. Factor in Wideman gone, we may be better. But Semin may not even be gone, George is in the mix. If Semin is the toxin that has been holding the team back, we are clearly better.

I think the Caps are three-something roster modifications from being a very solid cup contender.

Marcus Johansson for Luca Sbisa (Sbisa is a more physical Alzner IMO, a two-way defensman, signed 3 yrs at $2,175M, Ana needs a center)

Erskine + ? for Devin Setoguchi (Minny needs to shed salary, not sure exactly what they want back maybe a 2nd round pick and mid-level prospect?)

Sign Dominic Moore (to afford the Caps to move Laich back to 2LW where he belongs)

FORWARDS
Alex Ovechkin ($9.538m) / Nick Backstrom ($6.700m) / Troy Brouwer ($2.350m)
Brooks Laich ($4.500m) / Mike Ribeiro ($5.000m) / Devin Setoguchi ($3.000m)
Jason Chimera ($1.750m) / Dominic Moore ($1.450m) / Joel Ward ($3.000m)
Matt Hendricks ($0.825m) / Jay Beagle ($0.750m) / Joey Crabb ($0.950m)
Gilbert Brule ($0.700m) / Mattias Sjogren ($0.900m)
DEFENSEMEN
Karl Alzner ($1.285m) / John Carlson ($2.350m)
Luca Sbisa ($2.175m) / Mike Green ($5.000m)
Roman Hamrlik ($3.500m) / Dmitry Orlov ($0.900m)
Jack Hillen ($0.650m) /
GOALTENDERS
Michal Neuvirth ($1.150m)
Braden Holtby ($0.638m)
BUYOUTS
Tyler Sloan ($0.233m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $70,200,000; CAP PAYROLL: $59,294,572; BONUSES: $240,000
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $10,905,428

They can do even better by re-signing Semin and move Ward to a team that needs to add some salary, Brouwer falls back to 3rd, Semin on 2nd and Seto on the 1st.

Schultz needs to be gone also, but there's a lot of caproom left so they can carry 24 players if they have to.

I added Brule because I think he could be a cheap decent bottom-6 fill-in if needed.

Just say no to Bobby Ryan. His asking price will be high and we have just now started replenishing the farm and have holes in the roster as it is.

Also say ABSOLUTELY no to Shane Doan. How much gas does this guy have left in the tank? At 35 his contract will be highly risky salary cap wise and he seems to want a good term to boot.

Semin has been and still is our best option. Should he goto another team then we should just go into the season with what we have and give some players a chance to step into more prominent scoring roles.

Ok this is not directed solely at you bro...but...what the hell makes you think that the Caps haven't slotted Beagle in as the 3rd line center??? Didn't he fill that role demonstrably well down the stretch and into the playoffs???

What give anyone the idea the Caps will demote him to the 4th line after his stellar performance?

I do agree that Laich should be in a scoring role in the top 6 and think they probably already have slotted him there on Ribeiro's wing.

I don't think he has the offense to play 3C. He did a good job in the playoffs, but i prefer him as 4C where he can work his b*tt off, finish checks, win faceoffs, shut down other teams top-6 and don't have the pressure to put up points while doing it.

Maybe true but do you think for one second that GMGM views it that way? Besides the role of the 3rd line center is to do exactly what Beagle does..win faceoffs, play strong d, be physical etc.

Your 4C role is misguided IMO...if you want your 4c to be the "shutdown" guy then he will have to play 15-20 mins a nite.

The fourth line plays maybe 10 minutes and is there to provide energy, not cost the team and chip in a goal here or there.

I would have no idea why the Caps would demote him at this point and bring in a mercenary to take his place. That wouldn't send such a good message to the gang don't you think?

Beagles fate depends on what happens to Laich. What happens to Laich depends on how thin / grind free George wants our top 6 wingers to be.

Its too early to bang heads about it. I am encouraged to hear George kicking cans when he doesn't want anyone to know.

Big questions now, is he going to add a winger, and is he going to trade a LD.

I am thinking he is playing hardball with Semin, knowing Semin doesn't want to leave town, but Semin knows George needs a goal scoring winger for Ribeiro. Gandler and George have done lots of deals over the year, and Gandler spilled the beans. Who needs who more? Perhaps there is some equal ground to be found. Someone mentioned Semin owns a business in town - can anyone confirm? Not sure if its true, but a factor if so.

My money is on Erskine getting moved. Hammer did well and Green needs him. Sarge has his best month ever in February and his long term development should remain a priority to George.
