Personally I feel that Josi can step in for Suter and do just a good of job as jbo right now...

Maybe, but we still need to bring in a defenseman for the 2nd pair, even then.

Weber-Josi
Klein-Ekholm/Blum/xxx
Gill-Ellis

Definetly don't want to have Klein as our #3 when our #2 is a rookie who could easily pull a Blum

Yeah, I'm starting to shy away from the thought of bringing in a #2 for Weber to play with. Hand the reigns to Josi and sign a solid 2nd pairing guy to play with Klein.

Just hope Weber approves of this plan.

I'm Josi biggest fan, trust me. Favorite player in the league. But what happens if he regresses? Gets injured? Assuming a rookie/sophomore can just step onto a first pairing with no problem is a dangerous game. I'd rather see Weber-JBo to start the year, and as Josi matures more, slowly switch it to Weber-Josi, with JBo-Klein as pair #2. We HAVE to have a backup plan to Josi if we're going to slot him on the first pair.

Going into the season with Josi on the top pair is a risky proposition. He could play even better than last year, or he could have a sophomore slump.

I definitely think we need a proven top 4 guy to at least pair with Klein even if Josi plays top pair. It might not be an exciting move, but I think Carlo Colaiacovo would be a decent signing for us. Good puck mover, smart, solid on D. He would be a decent acquisition on a short term contract.

I would LOVE IT IF Enstrom came to the Preds. Favorite Thrasher of all time and would be god if paired with Weber IMO

I'm all for bringing in a vet, just saying it doesn't have to be a top pairing defenseman, and we don't need to give up much to get this defenseman.

Anton Volchenkov might be an interesting target now that the Devils lost Parise.

Not sure if that's a great idea, but it is a stop gap until Blum figures **** out, Ekholm steps up, & whoever else we need to step their game up does so.

If the rumors are true that Phoenix is willing to consider trading Yandle, what would you think about Nashville pursuing him? In the limited number of games that I have watched him, I have been impressed.

big YES on Yandle. I know PHX isn't as high on him now with OEL breaking out, but the season before that Yandle was definitely being talked about in the same terms as Weber, Suter and the elite young defensemen of the league.

Looked over the UFA list. Slim pickings...

Carlo Coliacovo wouldn't be a bad get. Would be solid with Klein as part of the 2nd pair. Would be fairly cheap, comes from a defensively responsible system in St. Lou.

Maybe Pavel Kubina if he comes in below his $5mil price tag. He's big and physical, he'd probably be a good vet for the kids. If you have a positive +/- on the Lightning, you must be at least an adequate defender.

Other than that you're in the Mark Eaton/Cam Barker territory - i.e. should be in the pressbox or on the 3rd pair but actually plays on the 2nd pair because the team has no other options.

Yandle and Enstrom are clearly a cut above the other options, but they will cost a ton more too, as they should. I am good with getting them, but it'd be pricey. Jbo is really good, though not as good, but much cheaper.

Coliacovo is interesting for sure.

Barker might be a player that would actually thrive here after failing in other markets.

I'm gonna go ahead and say we like Josi too much to go after a guy like Bouwmeester. We'll probably pair Josi with Weber and go grab Kubina or Coliacovo.

IMO, I wouldn't mind Kubina on that 2nd line, he's big, tough, and hard to move much like Gill. Except I think he plays a little tougher and rougher than Gill.

If we go that route, we definitely have to be all in on a top-6. Go after Ryan, trade Wilson and some change. and If that doesn't work we need to just take a shot at Semin on a one year, "prove it to me" deal.

Would love to see us go get Shane Doan though.

I don't disagree, but I'd like the extra depth. Bouwmeester would be a short-term option anyway, for just two years, at which point Josi is definitely ready for the big time.
