He's 28 in October, so this isn't really another Lilja.
Still...not sure 2 years is needed. We're developing a logjam on defense, when we have young players who are trying to break in.
Cheap depth D men are good for injuries and competition. So far this offseason has been awesome, Carle and Jagr gone and Holmer hasn't lost his **** yet ( Please dont be dumb). Let this core grow together and olny get Ryan if means 10 & 14 stay put.
He's not stellar but not as bad as some of the detractors make him out to be. Skates and handles the puck pretty well, but is not physical to any great degree. Will make some solid defensive plays, and will also make the occasional bonehead play - true of most D-men in the league.
Because he isn't afraid to handle the puck, he does make a fair number of bad passes that lead to turnovers and scoring chances against. That, to me, is the biggest down side to his game. If he plays conservatively, and is paired with a solid stay at home partner, he should be a serviceable #6/7 D-man. Hope it works out in Philly.

Yeah that would do just fine in a Terry Murray system...once again our D is shaping up to be better run by Terry Murray than Lavi. We have a lot more stay at homes than I like.....especially in Lavi's transition offense. But at least as a 6 or 7 D he might be ok and it will make Talbot happier I suppose to have his buddy
Man it's amazing how Kubina just fell off the depth charts for the Flyers and any team in the league for that matter. Freakin Yzerman always pimping his damaged goods like Walker....Holmgren of course bit two times and cost us a second but at least he got it back with Bob. Wasn't the Bob pick better than the one we gave Tampa for Funky Cold Kubina? No time to look...

Kubina was playing good for us until he was injured

I'm actually not interesting in acquiring Ryan if it means costing us a single roster player. We need to try to grow a team for once. I'm anti-Semin, but I'd rather see him for a year or two for the sake of roster consistency since he could be added without sending someone off in return.
Also, I'd say the Leighton signing counts as losing his ****. That was 42 different kinds of awful.
Who knows what will happen. Homer got bashed for the Carle and Meszaros signings and they did not turn out to bad. I am glad we are out of the Nash hysteria.

Dam Fish, For one of the few times I am in agreement with you. Lets see this young core grow up together. Plus we do have some young players at every position coming up in the next year or two.

I assumed I was the only one so far that liked how this off season has gone. These are exactly the kind of signings I wanted to see; low $ and low term to set us up for future contracts and cap space. I don’t expect the team to be better this year with these moves, but I am looking long term. If we want to try to have a legitimate shot at Weber, then these moves are perfect. It will also allow us to be players at the trade deadline.
Ah yes, Chef Bruno....I will never forget how happy I was when he left the Island and I didn't have to yell at him when I was at games anymore.
He can cook a damn good meal for the team though
That's the answer! Gervais was picked up to cook at Brière's house for him, his sons and all the rookies living with him. Plus, with Stevens' son in the system, the Flyers can expect a regular supply of baked goods.
