Mtl-Edm Minor trade

Just curious if there is a fit in needs for both teams. All players in play are young botton-pairing defensmen with mariginal-to-average upside.

Montreal trades Y.Weber or R.Diaz to Edmonton for T.Peckham or C.Teubert

Reasoning for Montreal: Adds some much needed size to the backend. Habs def-corps is simply to small and there is no one that can match up againts bigger forwards. Adding either player would shore up that somewhat.

Reasoning for Edmonton: Both Weber and Diaz are underwhelming in their own zone, however, they are young, cheap and above-average puck-movers. Would give Edmonton's young forwards more opportunities to attack on the rush. Also, with Krueger being Swiss Int coach for 12 years, he probably knows both players fairly well.

I would probably do Peckham for Weber. I think the oilers would prefer to keep Teubert so they can keep him in OKC for another season.

I'd rather keep our guys. Remember that Peckham was actually really good two years ago, and Teubert has more upside than the guys from Montreal I believe. Pass.

Diaz isn't underwhelming in his own zone at all.

Okay yes, but how do we keep Peckham on the roster when our D depth chart currently is:

Petry
Smid
Schultz
Schultz
Whitney
Sutton
Potter
Peckham

With people talking of us adding another defenseman and/or Klefbom possibly coming over earlier.

With Hordichuk on the roster we are clearly going to be carrying 14 forwards and 7 defensemen. Sure we could waive Potter to keep Peckham but Sutton does a better job and is similar mould to Peckham. Then Teubert has more upside than Peckham too and will probably be pushing him out of a spot in a year or two.

From my understanding Weber can be sent down without waivers, that would give us a lot more depth for call up options and a player to keep our AHL team at the top of the standings.

Underwhelming physically, I should've specified.
