I'm guessing MacKinnon's stock will greatly plummet come 2013 draft time since he's lazy and from Russia. Wait, what?

It's happened to Canadian kids, too.

Look at Spezza getting jumped by Kovy in 2001 and even Couturier's drop last year.

How does Grigorenko match up against Monahan?

More talented with less to offer in terms of intangibles? Higher ceiling?

Monahan is more of a do everything type, while Grigorenko is of a pure offensive type.

I think Grigorenko has more technical talent but it's tough to say if it will translate into him being a better NHL player.

Previously mentioned Valeri Nichushkin has signed a three year KHL contract with Traktor Chelyabinsk.
He was supposed to be one of the top picks in today's CHL Import Draft.

2012 CHL Import Draft results (CHL.ca)

Soo Greyhounds take Sergei Tolchinsky, making splash at CHL import draft (VIDEO) (Y! Sports):
Quote:
Just one look was all it took for Kyle Dubas to know Sergei Tolchinsky is worth the calculated risk for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

Small-market Ontario Hockey League teams typically don't land players such as Tolchinsky, a 5-foot-7½ , 150-pound speedster who basically plays like a mini-Nail Yakupov is definitely the latter. However, if Yakupov and Alex Galchenyuk (who went through the regular draft, not the CHL import draft) could goes Nos. 1 and 3 overall in the NHL draft after starring for the Sarnia Sting, why shouldn't the Greyhounds try with a player who is also advised by Igor Larionov?

"I'd rather swing for the fence with a kid we know we is an elite player than bring in anybody who is average and below," Dubas said.

I would actually love to go to some OHL or Q games. Never been. I suppose I should look at Niagara's schedule.

Erie's another option for locals as well; plus they now have Connor McDavid ('97).

USA's 2012 Youth Select 17 Player Development Camp wrapped today in Rochester, with Justin Bailey (2+2) and Adam Erne (4+1) appearing on the camp's all-star roster. Matt Weis (3+5) also shined in the five-game tourney.

Bailey also tweeted he's made the cut for the USA U-18 squad:

That's pretty cool. The tourny is around September-ish, right? Maybe August?

Nope, but he's Calle Järnkrok's cousin.

He's basically a more physical Järnkrok.

Nice to see someone else on the Buchnevich bandwagon.

He was one of the glaring omissions from that NHL CS list along with guys like Kujawinski, but it's not surprising since that Russian list is awful.
