While I am happy he is re-signed, how are Schneider and Rask good comparables? Sounds like Bob is bracing us for a bigger than expected number. Of course we do have the cap space over the next 2 years, so not a huge deal I guess.
I'm saying he's not a PROVEN NHL starting goalie. So why throw money at somebody like that? I could care less if he's going into the season as a starter. He might still lose his starting position to an aging boozer~ Khabbi... just like last season. Why pay somebody who has not earned it.
He has earned it. He took back the starting job after Boulin's player of the month caliber start. You won't get a good, young goalie to sign for 1.5 million. Average backups get 1.5 million. You seem to think that this is a "we're only paying this, so sign here" type situation. It's a negotiation, both parties have to agree.
.916 and .914 are his sv% the last 2 seasons. He is easily NHL caliber based on those seasons. He might not be starting goaltender material but I certainly wouldn't advise taking him to arbitration over 1 year at a marginal salary...

Go ask David Poile how well arbitration works. He took Weber to arbitration and pissed people off. Its not the only reason his team is falling apart, but Weber will bounce from Nashville in part because the GM pissed him off with an arbitration hearing. I`d rather give a guy a few extra bucks than go through that process. A two year deal is the perfect way to let Dubs show if he can make it as an NHL starter.
As long as he`s not making 3m per season. I know he fits in the cap but its the principal of not rewarding players for mediocrity.
3m would be a slight overpayment, if that is what the number turn out to be. I would think 2.5/season is about what he deserves and so 3 would be a bit high for my liking, but I am happy to have him back and hope he continues to play well.

And he got 3.5 million a year. Yes it is wonderful that we all think that Schneider is going to be better.

As I said, I`d rather give the guy an extra 500 thousand than go through that risk. It`s not likely that Dubnyk was after 5 million per year, which is the only logical time to use arbitration.
That is way too much for Dubnyk. The Oilers obviously love this guy. No way he gets that from any other team. Doesn't hurt us for the moment but it definitely sends a bad message.
Edit: The only way this was a good decision is if Gagner is signing quick as well so our bases are covered for a Weber offersheet.
I dont think that one is going to get done for awhile. If hes in play maybe his new team wants to sign him to a contract. Dollar wise could be 2.5-4.5 so who knows. If we sign him i hope its not for too long.

Weber started off as a much better talent on an unrelated position. If Dubs put up proven numbers and was consistent, then arbitration wouldnt be mentioned.
