surprising really. we lacked heavily in the offensive department as well. the PP was good, but 5v5 we were toeing the line all year. leaving many games to chance.

was that more of a player problem than a system problem?

former NHL player sounds more like you need a motivator in the locker room, and someone to keep the players accountable.

I hope one or both of Woodcroft and Shaw are gone (but I doubt it). Anyone that can help the PK, I'd be for.

I'm convinced that they're both staying... DW has stressed that he believes the people in place are good coaches, implying that the problem was they were understaffed...

seems like even though the coaches were largely responsible for the disappointing season, he also believes that they can turn it around themselves with an additional coach and a shift in strategy

I think if he thought Shaw & Woodcroft were hurting more than helping, he would've let them go by now so they'd have a chance to interview for other jobs in or out of the NHL

I agree, more fuel for my "McLellan is not a good coach" fire.

@DarrenDreger

Red Wings announce the hiring of Tom Renney as an associate coach. 3 year deal. Good things happen to good people. Good hire.

Could have been a good fit on our staff.

Reiss said yesterday the Sharks were close to hiring a new assistant coach. Anyone have any inside scoop (As opposed to speculation) on who that might be?

Renney is good for a defensive orientation and youngsters. Very easy with the players, not a fire-breather. A failure as an HC.

Anyone that knows won't be saying anything until the team says it's OK, or they'll never find out anything again.
