Nothing wrong with that at all. Thats pretty good value considering Petry's draft pedigree.
Good signing...Dubnyk on the other hand.

Wondering if Tambo mixed up his negotiations and gave the wrong contract to the wrong guy. At least it averages out!

True enough, but I just find it funny that Leafs fans keep placing their defencemen on a pedestal while joining in the mob disparaging ours. And believe me, his "he'll never be anything more than a #4 defenceman lawls" was meant to be disparaging.

I was going to post something like that earlier. Of course, that doesn't explain why Petry would sign the smaller contract...

Bah...they're probably just sour because of how the Schultz scenario played out.

Hope we don't trade Petry, but GM's will probably be looking at this contract as a big plus...

And it doesn't look like their goaltending situation is going to get rectified easily either.

Reimer or bust.

I don't think that's actually that unreasonable. He struggles this year, then finds his groove next year, and finishes his development as a #4 guy. Completely realistic.

I'll just say it, he has his struggles adjusting to the NHL, but he's a #4 now, and should only get better.

He led the team in TOI and had 120+ hits. No idea what you're talking about. Compare that to Smid's 180 hits.

This contract is a steal whichever way you put it..
Friend....You going by stats.......does not tell the whole story......going by your avatar you live in the US........I live in Edmonton and seen over half of the Oilers games!

And the contract is not a steal......PS Are you a relative, friend or Jeff himself?

Once again - Jeff Petry is a fixture on the Oilers' blueline moving forward.

I was a skeptic at the start of 11/12 but he proved me wrong. The contract is a steal.

Congrats on the new deal and getting hitched Jeff!

That's a great cap hit for him as well, if he has some growing pains we had better not crap on the kid considering what he signed for

Friend, I also live in Edmonton and watched 90% of the games. Petry was bad at the start of the season but has gotten better as the season progressed. He was also throwing his weight around towards the end of the season. He and Smid were our best defencemen. I don't think he's done figuring his game out either.... He is definitely an important piece to our future.

This signing is an absolute steal. Can't believe he signed it.

My only criticism of Petry's game is that he was a turnover machine to start the year in the NHL. But that comes with the territory as a young defenseman in this league - especially one who plays for one of the worst teams in that league.

He's definitely a fixture in this lineup this upcoming season. And this contract is just icing on the cake.

This reminds me of when we re-upped Nilsson and Gilbert on the same day. Everyone thought the Gilbert deal was just awful but the Nilsson deal made up for it. Gilbert's contract ended up being almost spot-on for value in the long run, Nilsson's not so much.

Hoping Petry turns out better then Nilsson (I'm sure he will), just funny how time can change opinions so much.

Great deal for Petry, can't believe he signed for so little.

Why is it such a steal?............Petry has an agent, I think he would know what his client is worth.....and note it's for two years........If are a Petry fan than you are entitle to your opinion but it's still an opinion! Just like I am entitle to my!

Were you sleeping for 89% of the games...........just kidding!

Well in this case, stats don't lie. You said, he does not hit. and I gave you stats saying he does hit. I bet I've been to more Oiler games than you this season. How's that for a stat?

Yes, friend, I am Jeff Petry. I'm getting married this weekend.

Nice, congrats Jeff and congrats on the deal. May the next one be worthy of 5+ years.

Great deal for Petry. Led the team in points for d-men and time on ice. Not bad for a rookie year. Hopefully he continues to improve and develops greater consistency and shows a little more offensively.

I probably upset them by telling them Johnson wasn't a true #1 defenseman, the fact that i presented evidence to prove my point really didn't go over well either.lol

Feel bad for Petry. He deserves more than this salary. Our top D only worth 1.75? Cmon. That's embarrasing. Cap hit shmap hit, 'pay him, pay that man his money'
