Stralman files for arbitration

Per a bunch of legitimate sources.

Pat Leonard @NYDNRangers
Anton Stralman has elected salary arbitration, so unless #NYR opt out (not expected to), the RFA D-man will be a Ranger next season

Good news. Heard rumors of a return to Sweden, but glad to have him back on the third pair. Did a solid job.

Very good news. I don't really foresee the Rangers walking away from his award (if they don't get him locked up before the arbitration date) so it will be good to have Anton back.

I thought Woywitka and Eminger were better players until Stralman won me over. Man I love this guy. He made some key plays on the PP in the playoffs too. He doesn't make many mistakes either. Your prototypical #5 d-man.

They can opt for a two year award. Wonder if they do.

Brooks indicated the Rangers and Stralman could come to an agreement on a multi-year deal.

3 years $6M or 2 years $5M would work.

He needs to play in the regular season like he did in the playoffs on the PP. He had no indecision and just made plays.

I wonder if his family would want to stay for 2-3 years.

He was unsure about coming back.

And for an FAQ about Salary Arbitration, read this:

$2M per? I don't think he'll get that.

Look at the going rate for defenseman. $2M for Stralman could end up a bargain if he stays consistent. Especialy for a right handed puck mover.

I posted this in the other thread before it was announced, but for whatever it's worth:

The only thing reported in Swedish media was from a couple weeks ago, where his agent stated that he wants to return to the NHL and that SEL is not an option.

Over the years, since he's been on one year deals since his ELC, SEL teams has always poundered his agent with requests come summertime. The answer has always been the same: he wants to play in the NHL. There is always the "family decision factor" to consider, but nothing has been reported on him leaning towards signing in Sweden, or Europe.

As he has been tossed around a bit and and has a family(at least two kids, maybe more), my uneducated guess is that he is seeking a deal based more on term than money. I'm guessing a 3-year or maybe 2-year deal around 1,5-1,8 per. Considering all the ******** contracts that has been handed out this summer, it's not unrealistic at all, IMO.

Totally cool with him being locked up for 2-3 years at around $2M per, based on his play last season and in the playoffs.

If he plays consistently that way for us during his tenure here, full seasons... he could get a decent payday after that.

Eminger was better before he was hurt but a pylon is better than Woywitka.

Woywitka makes a decent 7d, but that's why we have Bickel atm.

?---so you'd give him $2 mil per for 3 years and $2.5 mil per for 2 years? Usually it's a little more money with added years.

I'm okay with signing him for 2 years but 3 at this point is too many if only because I expect that within 2 years time we're going to find a better 2nd pairing right D. For those 2 years I might go as high as $2 mil per year but I'd try to lowball that a little bit into the 1.7-1.8 range.

Eminger was very good in his first season here. Last year he sucked.

Hmm. Got that mixed up. Other way around.

Either way, Stralman has got to be re-signed.

Disagree. In the year prior to his injury he had evolved into a respectable player - and Torts gave him playing time accordingly. (Hasn't been the same since he was hurt, however.)

On topic: good to see - it means that he will almost assuredly be back next year.

Eminger is awful. Stralman is significantly better. They're both liable to make brain farts in their own zone but Stralman is a lot better offensively. Much better passer.
