Just noticed the one inconvenient thing about this signing: was planning on seeing the Wild when they came to New Jersey, not sure if that's such a good idea now...

My friend from Jersey is mad at Zach for two reasons:

1. He claims he lied and said he wanted to resign with Jersey. And he wanted to win.
2. He is mad he was a Devils captain when he bolted. The captain part bothers him more than anything else.

I told him regarding 1, I never took seriously Zach saying he wanted to go to a place to win and that meant the Wild were out of it. The resigning, well maybe he did want to, but the second Jersey let him test the market, everything was fair game and you cannot fault a guy for wanting to go home

2, I didn't really have a lot to say about that. That sucks but as a diehard Minnesota sports fan, we have been screwed before (Stephon Marbury, Gaborik) so I can't feel too badly about this.

This is a good place for a first post from a long time lurker.

I was a North Stars fan growing up and a Dallas Stars fan untill Wild came to be.

Because for me it was always about Minnesota also, place so much like Finland.
Where Hockey matters, it gets people excited, happy and sometimes upset.

The time before this news was an reality was the most nerve recking ive had for some time.
Now i can only say that it got me even little emotional and im a very happy Wild fan.

I sometimes think Wild should make Scandinavia and maybe Germany an area of interest within Europe, regarding marketing, scouting and co-operation.

I was watching Twitter a little July 4, but had to do some yard work. Checked back in with my phone and saw the very top Tweet on my list from Darren Dreger.

"Confirming both Parise and Suter to the Wild. Great work by all on this story...most noteworthy @Russostrib. Congrats!"

I think I reread it about 5 times and still was in disbelief. It took a couple more Tweets before I raised my arms in victory. I was literally dripping with sweat from the heat, but at that moment I had chills running up and down my spine.

Looked in the window and saw my girlfriend heading out to join me on the patio. I said, "We did it. We got them both"! She was probably more thrilled it was ending. She could tell I could hardly contain myself as I added it to the status of Facebook and Twitter. She asked if I was going to do a dance. I said I felt like it.

Pretty amazing how something so seemingly silly can make a 42 year old man act goofy.

A very big market place. I dont know if the ties are there as in Scandinavia where many have relatives in Minnesota and Midwest in general.

Ahhh right, I always forget Heatley was born there, didn't think Endras would be enough to draw fans.

Well my mother and sister heard the news today through the news. News showed a picture of Parise, the first thing either of they say is.... "Oh, he's cute". Yes, that's why we signed him

My parents bought me tickets to a Wild game through the official website and apparently they sent an email yesterday to everyone on their email list with the "Welcome Zach and Ryan" picture in it. Same reaction from my mom and sister

It's quite ridiculous. As someone said on here "ignored to hated" in one day.

I've tried to tell people why the team made this move, why the players came here (since apparently most can't read for themselves, and/or they'd rather have an opinion from a fan "in the know" I guess) and they are just so broken up about it or don't get it, or are so dense they refuse to see relative logic.

Parise is now overrated, the Wild are a joke, blah blah blah.

Annoying.

That said, my friends that are "actual" fans of teams that lost out on this sweepstakes were congratulatory. This is bigger than hockey, it's huge for the whole state, the surrounding states that are part of this market and for other teams here.

It also, in my opinion allows this team to step out from underneath the shadow of the North Stars a bit more. If this was the North Stars, the "ire" of the fans from these other teams wouldn't be as fierce, instead it is the upstart expansion franchise from the Cornfields-- regardless of the fact Minnesota has every state beat in terms of hockey history in the US. Only Canada can claim more.

In the end though, everywhere I go people ask what team do you like when they find out I'm a diehard hockey fan, and a lot of people (fairweathers, casual fans etc) are like The Wild? What?

Then you have to explain about the North Stars, and blah blah blah blah, and it's a smack in the face just about every time it happens.

This is one step to never having to do that again and for that I am thankful.

Don't forget Cullen was actually born in Virginia, Minnesota where my family is from which has "Finntown".
