I can't stick around too long but I think it would Definitely take Martin, Despres, Bennett + at least two more good assets, either 1st or existing roster player from our Top 9 to address their weaknesses. Maybe we'll ship them the other, other Dupuis and pretend like it was really Pascal.

Wtf is this "let Despres up his trade value" crap? Is this the bipolar capital?

I do that 10 times out of 10. Shea Weber is a monster.

Weber certainly won't get offer-sheeted. That's exactly what the Preds want since it wouldn't be a one year offer and they'd obviously match it and get him locked up long-term.

The Preds don't strike me as a team that will throw in the towel. I think they will try to re-sign him. Maybe trade him if they are out of it by the deadline this upcoming season.

Given your predictive powers I recommend you predict Weber in a Penguins uniform at the start of the season.

They are in a tough spot. No clue what they do. But can they really risk letting Suter and Weber walk for nothing? That has to be the end of that GM's tenure.

Player A [gritty winger for Sid]

Shane Doan - probably won't come east
Ryan Clowe - might be used in San Jose's Nash package
Brenden Morrow - has been playing like a third-liner

Player B [skill winger for Sid]

Booby Ryan - requires massive overpayment
Rick Nash - requires massive overpayment
Alexander Semin - sends this board into convulsions
Andrei Kostitsyn - candy is dandy but liquor is quicker
Chris Stewart - Blues don't want to sell low
Devin Setoguchi - mere mention of his availability will give exile an aneurysm
Ales Hemsky - soff or not soff - the eternal debate

Player C [space-creator for Malkin who allows Kunitz plays with Sid]

Nikolai Kulemin - they probably don't want to sell low
Ryan Malone - tampa doesn't need Martin anymore
Eric Tangradi - the big dog is still an enigma

fair summary?

I don't see them making a move with him until the deadline. He's such an impactful player that someone will still pay a premium for him at the deadline. In the meantime they will try to win and acquire some pieces to convince him to stay. Doubt it works but they'll try.

Agreed:

“I’m going to turn my attention to that, and I’ve told to Shea on numerous occasions he’s the captain of our team. I want to build our team around him.” Predators GM David Poile said in a report from Josh Cooper of The Tennessean. “He has been terrific in the captain’s role, as a player. I hope he will re-sign with us.”

And firing Poile? Only thing wrong he did in this situation was trust Suter when it seemed like he checked out awhile ago.

I LOVE Weber, but I don't trade the farm for him, which is what it will take. Even still, we don't know that he wants to sign a long-term deal here -- he may want to stay out West or Western Canada.

And finally, if there's a bidding war for Weber, we won't win it against the Flyers, Rangers, Red Wings, Oilers or other teams who are rich where we are weak: skilled, young forwards. Nashville are stacked at our area of strength (defense), so Morrow/Pouliot/Maatta/etc. are not nearly as valuable to them as Kreider/J.T. Miller/Anisimov/Stepan/Dubinsky or Yakupov/Paajariv/Gagne/etc., Saad/Teravainen/Shaw/McNeil/etc; or even Setoguchi/Coyle/Granlund/Zucker/Larsson/other Minnesota Wild prospects.

You think they'd fire Poille because nobody wants to stay in Nashville? He's going absolutely nowhere. He's doing more with less, moreso than any other GM in the league.

Care to elaborate?

Despres has serious upside. Give him a spot as our #5 next season and if we can use him to upgrade our roster, you get more for him as he becomes more proven.
