Sparks

Would be a very big and strong defensive team up front, with alot of speed and offense from the back end. I really like the looks of it, But I don't expect that to be our real bottom 6. It is just a group we have drafted that I am drooling over. I'd love to see them all grow and play together. Talk about character.

3 years from now ottawa only has one nhl player under contract, erik karlsson.

so 5 years from now who the **** knows what could happen. No team in the NHL is poised to change more.

I think Spezza will remain a Sen for life.

He's one player I can't picture in another uniform.

This doesn't take into account any free agents or trades, basically built from within.

Honestly, if Spezza leaves Ottawa I don't know what I'd do. It wouldn't even be the Senators anymore if Spezza is on another team. Anyways:

Forwards will have Spezza as the 1C with some combination of wingers. Mark Stone could work well with him, it seems like their styles would compliment eachother. I always envisioned Zibanejad having Silfverberg on his wing, when he was ready to step up and be a 2C. Michalek could be another winger there, if we find someone else to play on the first line. Turris would be the 3C, and a very good one at that, if he can keep up his performance from last year (20 goal pace while in a Sens uniform). Stefan Noesen, Matt Puempel or Shane Prince could work well as his wingers, as well as Andre Petersson, Colin Greening. Jim O'brien will be the 4th line center, and also very good. Chris Neil should still be around. Latendresse will not be around.

The blue line will be headlined by Karlsson still, obviously. Jared Cowen will be a very good partner for him, unless they want to spread the talent. Cowen would also work very well with Ceci, and Methot will hopefully develop some Chemistry with Karlsson. Philips may still be around. Borowiecki or a UFA/future draft pick will round it out.

Lehner will be our starter. Who knows whether Bishop and Anderson will still be here.

This ofcourse doesnt take into account the extra 10 mil in capspace we have,[B] or that fact that we're going to stink for the next year or two and draft high. [/B}
if only we kept those picks

Not really sure why you would say that. The Senators are one of the more stable frachises in the NHL.

This was one Sens lineup from way back (SixthSens pg 1)

Heatley - Spezza - Alfredsson
Foligno - Fisher - O'Brien/Daugavins/Regin
Z.Smith - Kelly - Condra
Weller - Bass - Winchester

Phillips - Volchenkov
Karlsson - Lee
Picard - Wierioch/Schubert

Elliott
UFA

------
There are a lot of familiar names on that list, and it does not include Neil or Greening. So everything considered, the Sens method of team structure is to keep the stars, build with rookies, and fill with trades and UFAs

Silfverberg Spezza Zibinaejad
Michalek- Turris- Stone
Noesen - Smith - Prince
Greening - O'Brien - Condra
(Hoffman, Peumpel, Pageau, Kramer)

Cowen - Karlsson
Boroweicki - Ceci
Methot - Claesson
(Blood, Gryba, Wideman, Wiercioch)

Lehner
Bishop

In light of what we needed to look like to actually win the Cup,, this is an awful, awful lineup.

Complete Guess:

Sven Baertschi - Ryan Getzlaf - Johnny Gaudreau
Loui Eriksson - Mark Jankowski - Mikael Backlund
Markus Granlund - Max Reinhart - Kerby Rychel
Michael Ferland - Bill Arnold - Matt Martin

Brendan Smith - Mike Green
T.J. Brodie - Patrick Seiloff
Dennis Wideman - John Ramage

Laurent Brossoit
Steve Mason

In reality I expect Baertschi to be the only player likely to be correct on this roster 5 years from now.
