Weber is not signing an offer sheet more than one year, because that means he gets stuck in NSH, when and not if they match.

A one year offer sheet for a player already earning 7.5m will always ALWAYS cost at least cost two 1sts++.

They only way an offer sheet makes sense is as a bargaining chip. IF Weber says he is going to sign it, NSH must take the pick compensation or let him go, because they cannot trade a player they matched an offer sheet for for a full year.

The only way we win a bidding war for Weber with the other usual suspects is if he makes it clear Pittsburgh is were he wants to come. Staal-style.

because they offered him 5 million dollars in the middle of a 36 point season. I don't think he'd be too upset to get traded from Edmonton to Pittsburgh.

Curious what it would take to get Malone without moving Martin. They don't really even need Martin now anyway since they signed Carle and Salo. Not sure what they'd want or if he's really even available now.

lol well, money does talk. But, I'm sure (I'd hope, as a professional athlete) he'd be pissed about being a packaged deal to Columbus if Nash was cool with going to Edmonton to play with 7 first overalls lol.

Weber is Pronger version 2.0 They don't make players like that often which is why we have no chance of getting him. He'll probably be the highest paid D-man in the league for a long time as soon as that contract comes up.

If we can get a replacement for Martin somewhere else I could see that being a good trade for both sides.

Yeah! Let's go ram guys' heads into the boards right when we begin learning how serious concussions really are!

There's a difference between being tough/physical and being an idiot. I like Weber's toughness, but there was nothing good about that play.

I know some have questions about the D, but if you think about it.

Orpik-Letang
Martin-Niskanen
Despres-Engelland

Orpik-Letang
Martin-Michalek
Niskanen-Engelland

We have the same #1, #2, #3 and #6. Who is a better fit, Michalek or Niskanen? I say Niskanen, he plays the style of D the Penguins like and he was one of our better defensemen last season. Michalek's more of a 1 on 1 shut down defenseman. The Pens want their D to have speed and good skating ability. Despres fits the team as well, he adds size and a two way game to the blue line. If the Pens focus on playing structured, team defense, they should be successful.

If I'm Nashville, I go "meh". They're going to want some legit NHL talent in return. If I ran the Preds and Shero called me I'd start with Letang.

Martin isn't going to Edmonton. It's rumor that they are on his list. Plus Hemsky has rarely produced to his potential.

Would Martin waive his NTC to go to Edmonton?

I can see that working for both sides. Same salary and Hemsky only has 2 years on his deal so if it didn't work out, we don't get hamstrung by his deal.

It certainly would be predicated on finding a top-4 defenseman via trade, though, and that's the hard one, I would think.

Alright, who's gonna sack up and sneak into the office holding Martins contract to remove the clause that validates he has a NTC?

Yep. The Staal trade looks like it could have waited as well now that we really don't need the cap space.

Shea Weber in my opinion is the best d-man in the NHL I can't think of one thing he struggles at, he's like a Kris Letang mixed with a Brooks Orpik but his defencive awareness is far better then those two plus his slap shot is hard as hell.
