Even though Letang has the looks of a perfect hockey player (hockey hair), I'd still want to trade him for Weber. Weber is just a mean SOB.

Not sure we'd have the parts to get him, but if in a perfect world we could trade Martin to Edmonton, Yandle could be an option now. He certainly couldn't do worse defensively than Martin did last season.

(Although, I'd like to state, I think Martins going to have a great bounce back year.)

Would require a substantial trade of assets but I could see Nashville doing it. Trading him out of conference for one thing. The only problem is how do you get the piece of mind you need? They'd have to allow us to talk to him and we'd have to get some kind verbal agreement that he would sign as long as the contract was no less than x years etc.

Now I'm going to leave before I see the words "trade" and "Whitney" in the same sentence again.

Don't want Ryan Malone back. We don't just need to spend cap space to spend cap space. We will have an opportunity to spend that space on a younger and better player than Malone if we're patient enough.

until when? We wouldn't have gotten the high draft pick and the value was going nowhere but down when he got put back into a permanent 3rd line role again.

he's just as good of a player as he was when he was here before. He'd be a great fit for the Malkin-Neal line and for the powerplay. Though it did make a lot more sense cap-wise when Martin would be going back.

I like Malone but he's not as good as he used to be due to his age, There are power forwards that are better then Malone at a lower cap space (but higher value). I agree with you not wanting Malone.

Wonder what it would take to pry Sam Gagne and Limas Omark away from Edmonton

I don't want him for 3 more years at 4.5 million. A much younger, better winger will come along in that time to spend that space on.

Question: Has Ryan Malone's scoring increased or decreased since leaving Pittsburgh.
Answer: Increased

Question: In what season did Ryan Malone record the highest PPG of his career?
Answer: 2011-2112.

His salary isn't great, but 4.5M for a 50 point guy that can work the corners, play in front of the net and add the size and toughness we are looking for is pretty much the going rate.

I've actually found myself hoping that Jerome Iginla signs an extension with Calgary so that we don't have to go through this mess again next summer

After Parise signed preferably. That 8th over all pick was pretty much the same as 22nd. If we don't flip those assets it seems like a waste. Besides Sutter it's going to be a while before they break into the NHL & even when they do it's in a position we already have an abundance of.

Seems like the rumor mill has taken a solid drop. I really hope Shero isn't sitting on his hands hoping Kennedy will suddenly develop hockey sense over the summer.

If Weber said he'd sign a 10 year extension (say at 7.5) I'd do that.
Letang + Bennet/Despres for Weber.

Yes losing Letang would hurt... but we have replacements for him in the minors (Morrow & Pouliout). We have no one even close to Weber (just his defensive presence with size - not counting his offense).

Weber - Martin
Orpik - Niskanen
Strait/Bortuzzo - Engelland
Strait/Bortuzzo

Dumoulin/Morrow are the first callups.

Eventually Kennedy will shoot a puck straight through a goalie's chest and prove everyone wrong. He hasn't been chest sniping for no reason at all. He's slowly eroding the sternums of every goalie in the NHL.

Yeah but he's going to be turning 33 in 5 months, I would rather just get a younger Chris Stewart even though his value is higher then Malone.

Getting Weber would be a sign and trade type of deal, probably already mentioned but I am going to anyway, lol.

I wonder what it would take for the Preds to part with his rights and for him to talk to the Pens to negotiate a deal before the deal is finalized.

I would guess something like the Pens 1st next year, Despres, Martin, and Bennett?

We could probably get Omark when he hits waivers in a couple of months.
