a 7th dman / 13th forward that you can dress for the more physical games?

if he's able to generate one weird spike in production in a few games ala all the random call ups that got fame with the Twins, and help the team win a game or two, this would be a good enough signing.

If he doesn't pan out, aquaman has enough cash to stick him in the minors.

Not sure why people think Alberts is going anywhere. Except for the fact be makes more than league minimim, Alberts is a good #7 Dman for this team. A big, physical, experienced Dman who doesn't complain about the pressbox who is a legitimate bottom pairing Dman in the NHL is a luxury that Gillis liked to have. He's pretty much been the Canucks' only option when the team felt they needed more size on the backend.

With Matt freakin' Carle and Dennis freakin' Wideman getting paid 5.5 and 5.25 respectively, Garrison's deal is a steal.

One of those long-shot guys who ended up not improving his skating enough to earn a regular NHL spot.

Very cheap for cap-pressed Vancouver as he was bought out by Carolina. But there was a reason he was bought out. He was one of the most sheltered d-men in the league last season and he still played awful minutes.

He'll be used sparingly and in a far more simplified role in Vancouver, that's if he cracks the NHL lineup, so i don't blame him for signing there. This would be a career-reboot for him. If he can't make a go of it in that role, then he just won't have a future in the NHL.

They needed to replace the mighty Aaron Rome. Cheers.

Jason Garrison, the most critiqued player in history by people that have never sen him play. Too much, too long, great deal, who is he?

I wasn't trolling, as i said, haven't seen him play much. I will agree with above posters though, compared to other signings...it probably isn't bad.

Upside to Joslin is that he is one of the nicest guys in the NHL.

Downside to Joslin is that he doesn't really belong in the NHL.

I'm equally as glad to see someone picked him up as I am to see that he is no longer on my team.

1 year 700 000 in the NHL and 105 000 in the AHL.
Simply put, this guy is our new Ryan Parent. A guy who doesn't belong in the bigs, but has the experience and would be a good veteran asset to a younger Wolves team. Especially losing Baumer to retirement and than releasing Parent.

Seems he'll battle Connauton and Sauve for a depth position in the 7/8 role. I hope Frank Corrado also slides into this battle through training camp because Id like to see what he can do with bigger forwards.

Canucks: Signed defencemen Derek Joslin and Patrick Mullen

http://canucks.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=637305

*edit

http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/patrick_mullen/

Mullen: Undrafted, signed in LA in 09 as farm fodder. GMMG MoneyPuck move...? Or another Wolves move...?

Will figure out terms when they are released.

According to CapGeek, terms of Joslin deal is for 1yr, two way deal for $700k

Good depth.

Gonna be in the AHL but Joslin will be the most eligible call-up.

He'd be our new Rome if he actually played defence.

Perhaps he is this year's MAG instead.

I wanted the Kings to re-sign Mullen. He came out of nowhere and had a very solid season last year. He most certainly is undersized, but he does have some skill. I do realize the Kings have ridiculous depth at the d position in the minors, but they must have had some other reason not to re-sign him...

I'd imagine it was just a depth reasons and they didn't project him to be better than their other depth D There's only so many contract spots, with X amount of new drafted prospects that have to be signed each year.
