As far as I can tell, no one with even an ounce of real credibility has mentioned Semin and the Preds in the same sentence. I suppose I could have missed something though...

"Nashville" improved offer Semin
HOCKEY - NHL
"Nashville" has increased its offer unrestricted free agent forward Alexander Semin informs Hockey Insider. Thus, the club made it clear that he is ready to compete for the two-time world champion. Recall that in the opening day of the year on the market ex-striker, "Washington" came out "Predators" and "Buffalo", but their proposals were not very profitable in financial terms. Therefore, the probability of returning to Russia, where hockey player interested in the SKA, CSKA and "Locomotive", is considered quite high.

I think that if a team where all the drag a piano, and you see a player who does almost all the worse for such and such money, both sides win. Better and truth in Detroit.

I'm pretty sure I've heard Russians on this site saying that sport-express isn't the most reliable, but I do believe they've been right before. Anyway, I honestly wouldn't mind Semin. He gets a bad rap, but I think a good deal of it is undeserved.
People say he's awful defensively, but the past two seasons, he's shown a good deal of improvement in that area. I think the chances we sign him are very low, but I wouldn't mind the move personally.

Booooooooo
At this point, why the heck not?
Even a half-arsing Semin could probably pot 30 goals for us. Depending on whether or not he can manage to keep out of Trotz's doghouse.
Jokinen gone, Jagr gone, Nash not an option, Bobby Ryan would cost a fortune in prospects.
Maybe, just maybe - he flourishes out of the spotlight. Or maybe he floats around, never plays D, and takes a midnight flight to Nowhereskovsky in the KHL sometime in January. Who knows.
I think I'd still rather see Semin lining up in the top 6 come opening night than whatever David Poile reclaimation project he manages to sign.
Maybe somebody else can help me with this, so don't quote me, but I thought I read a surprising article talking about Semin being a leader in +- in the last couple playoffs. I know some things like protected minutes factor into that, but I remember being completely surprised. Does anybody know what I am referring to?
The odds of Semin coming to Nashville aren't very high. It would be the worst fit ever but you can't blame the preds for at least giving an offer. I mean everyone wants that top 3 guy there he is but he'd be in Trotz's dog house so fast.

Over the last 4 or 5 years, Semin is 4th in the league in +/-, behind only Sedin-Sedin-Burrows. His Corsi stats are pretty impressive too.
Yes, he is purposely lying in an attempt to slander his team.
There are about a million other things he could say. This kind of response is very unusual.
Weber should be thanking $uter now. He has an easy excuse to bolt himself. He's not the bad guy in this situation. He can be traded to the team he wants to play for, and help his old team in the process. Unless he really wants to play here, but so far he has refused to make a long term commitment. If he did that very thing last off season maybe $uter signs before July 1st this year. Weber has 2 options IMO sign long term or get out of town. If he's not signed by August 1st, Poile should start shopping him to the highest bidder.
If Trotz was able to get something out of SK and he was a malcontent in Montreal, I think Semin would buy in to the system as well and he'd be fine. There is one thing that isn't tolerated in Nashville and that's lack of effort. Landing Semin to me would be a step in the right direction.

So I don't get it. Why is it commonly accepted to throw Semin under the bus for his lazy 2 way play? Is this a misconception or just sheep following the Russian stereotypes?

I think people can find fault with anyone if they truly want. Lots of people said Suter's play after the all-star break was sub par which was not the truth. A defenseman is not supposed to be seen out there, when you don't notice them, they're playing extremely well. I say this even though I'm ticked off at Suter for what he did to our franchise but that's neither here nor there. The times I've watched the Caps I've seen Semin on the PK. Coaches don't put lazy players on the PK. Sergie K. was used on the PK here and people get on him that he's lazy. I think people see the game differently and if you look for certain things, you may miss other things in the process. I think Semin would fit in just fine in Nashville.

Hockey Insider is about as credible within the hockey world as my left foot. I say "about" because my left foot actually knows Ray Shero. They ran into one another at a hotel bar in Florida once, and had an hour long conversation over Manhattans.

They aren't saying they got their info. from the Hockey Insider guy on twitter. They are saying that they literally got it from a hockey insider, as in an inside source associated with the NHL. I blame the poor Google translate.
Edit: My girlfriend speaks some Russian, she says in English it would read something like: A hockey insider has informed us that Nashville has increased its offer to Alexander Semin.

Ah ok. I misread the translation I guess. My point about Hockey Insider stands, though.
