Primantis is okay depending what you get. We have a great south side. If you're a drinker/partier its the place for you. Also a little hidden gem is the hookah booka bar if you're into that.
Hookah is disgusting and it's actually worse for you than smoking cigs, which I do btw, I've cut back a considerable amount. Anyways, when I've had Primanti's when I've come in for a Pirates game it's terrible. It really is. I went to Peppi's with my Dad last year and it was insanely better but that's just me. The place my Dad still wishes that was in Pittsburgh is, Vincent's Pizza in Turtle Creek. He raves about that place even though it's not there obviously.

Mount Washington should be your first priority. Arguably the best view of a skyline in the country. A must see for any Pittsburgh visitor.
If you're into bars/nightlife, check out the southside (5 minute drive from Mt. Washington). It's a mile long strip of nothing but bars and food places.
North shore has the casino, Carnegie Science Center, and both stadiums.
There are also museums but you can research that online.
Pittsburghers will tell you to try Primanti's. Personally I think it's very plain and overrated, but try it if you're into eating "local" foods. Peppi's is much better, imo. Regardless, they're both scattered throughout the area. You can google it.
Also the Cathedral of Learning, part of the University of Pittsburgh, is the tallest (or 2nd tallest?) education building in the world. You're no longer allowed inside of it, however, due to daily bomb threats this past spring.
I'm a student at Pitt, and can confirm that the bomb threat situation has been taken care of. Visitors are now allowed inside of the Cathedral. It's a beautiful building and well worth the visit if you have the time.

Unfortunately they didn't. The perpetrators sent one final email saying that the bomb threats would stop if the University removed the reward for any information about the threats. The threats stopped after Pitt complied, but they never caught anyone.
The Andy Warhol Museum, Primanti Bros. Restaurant, One of the Carnegie Museums, Overlook on Mount Washington. Just some off the top of my head.
YOU MUST EAT HERE. These sandwiches are amazing.
Also, next to Heinz Field (2 blocks from PNC Park) is the Carnegie Science Center. You should try to go to the Sports Complex next door. It's pretty awesome.
While you're there, go to a Pirates game. Best team to watch right now and you can get bleacher seats in the outfield for about 15 bucks.

The Primanti's at PNC and Heinz is ****ing terrible.
Who drinks Iron City? Yuengling is the beer of Pittsburgh & delicious.
Most people do drink Yuengling, however, that's a Philadelphia beer. That may be why we can't beat them at home. Let's quit serving the ****. I'll drink water. I don't even care anymore.
Another vote for the Warhol. I believe it's the biggest museum in the world dedicated to one artist. In addition to Andy's art, they have a decent amount of exhibitions that rotate throughout the year. If you like art, it's definitely an experience.
For restaurants, you have to go to Kaya. Excellent Caribbean food. I'd go on a Saturday and make a day of walking through the Strip.

Great suggestion. Some of the best fish tacos I've ever had.
First time I went to Primantis, I got the cheesesteak which is terrible. Now, I get either a double cap egg and onion, or double pastrami egg and onion with hot sauce. Those are really damn good.
Surprised nobody said Fat Heads. Tessaro's in Bloomfield too. Consistently rated one of the best burgers in the country.
We're also good at really big fish sammiches. Wholeys, Benkovitz, Armand's Bar, etc.

They also have an excellent brunch on Sundays

I'll say Fiori's for best pizza, Mineos is top notch though. I love Beto's too as someone else mentioned, it's very unique. You're either going to love it or hate it.

Fat Head's is where I always take visitors from out of down, 40 taps and one of the biggest "bar food" menus you'll see anywhere. Get the Chicken Little Headwich if you're looking for something unhealthy/delicious. I'll go on the record and say I was very underwhelmed with Tessaro's, I'd rather have a burger at Fat Heads, BRGR, Burgatory, Winghart's, Red Robin or 5 Guys. Maybe I had a bad experience however...
Also, not to disparage anyone here, but a lot of people walk into Primanti's and get the cheese steak which is nothing more than a ****** hamburger patty. You gotta go with your favorite lunch meat or go with cap, egg and cheese like someone suggested. Oh and lots of hot sauce.

Egh. I enjoy hookah myself and its mainly just a social thing. And yes primanti's is bad but their pastrami is great.
