Odd man out - Bouchard?

Well we are just about at the cap now, and PMB will be a UFA next season, as much as I love his play (when he is actually able to play) it would seem to me Bouchard might be a guy we end up trading here before the season begins preferably, or at very least at trade deadline this season, which to me would be less preferable than dealing him now.

I think it would be best to get his contract off the books now while we can still deal him, before he gets hurt again. Maybe I'm all wet, because I haven't heard how he is doing currently, but I'm assuming he is ready to go. If not I hope somebody will educate us here on his readiness status.

I like Butch, but I think in our present situation, and his history of injuries, this might be the best time to deal him, while we can.

What say you?

Right now, he's healthy and ready which is a good news.

GMCF probably won't re-sign him after next season though... No need to trade him IMO.

Don't you think trying to deal him now would be a good idea?

Wouldn't make much sense to trade him now when his value is so low

What could the Wild get in return?

The homer in me says we really shouldn't trade him.

Yeah it's low but I don't see it getting any better than now either. I hate to predict bad things happening to anyone, but I would bet a dolllar and a donut he will get injured again this season, and we will have zero chance then of dealing him at the trade deadline.

I think it would be unnecessary and selling low. I want to see what Bouchard can do amidst this type of talent. The last time we had something remotely similar, he topped 60 points. I don't know how it's going to work out, with 7 guys in the top 6 right now, but I know I want Bouchard to be a part of it this year.

Bouchard's only possible value would be to a team that desperately needs to reach the cap floor. It doesn't really do us any good to deal him (as despite claims from people who want Brodziak in the top 6, dealing him would make our team worse) and we won't get anything meaningful in return, so I don't see what the point would be.

If he's rolling pretty good after a few months, and he's deemed expendable, we could probably get a 2nd rounder out of a trade.

Nanne agrees with you. He said he wouldn't be surprised of the Wild try to package him in a trade for a defenseman.

With the way our team and prospect pools are constructed right now, I'm really not all that worried about not getting anything for our UFAs (Bouchard and Backstrom). I think we can really just accept the open space as compensation and move on.

Well as I said in my OP I like him myself, I just thought trying to sell the old clunker in the front yard now while it still ran, would be better than later after the engine blew. If you know what I mean, lol.

Yeah I had seen Nanne said this about Butch, and it's sort of the reason I made this thread, it got me to thinking dealing him now while he has ANY value was better than just letting him play out the season, and just parting ways getting nothing in return.

Depends who listens. Obviously it's not something that is imminent and obviously we have no idea which GM would be willing to talk to Fletcher about such a deal.

Or you can put your commute miles on the old beater until it dies to avoid running up the odometer on your new car whose mpg isn't quite as good. When the beater would only sell for $300, doesn't it make more sense to just use it until it dies?

Would be hard to say who would be part of a package, and what team would be involved, the possibilities are almost endless.

worst time to deal him, actually.
just my opinion. I really liked what I saw of him. Also my opinion but we missed him the most when he went under (aside from Koivu) last year and I'd rather not just assume Granlund will jump in and take the place of a healthy Bouchard.

Poor Butch, us talking about him in such ways, lol. You do have a point, but it's the old used car salesman in me, that always thinks getting something is always better than just letting an asset walk away, getting nothing in return. Personally I have serious doubts on how many games Butch has before being hurt again.

Also if I'm right, and I normally am. lol

Playing Butch this year, and only getting a handful of games out of him before getting hurt again makes little sense if we can get something for him now while he is somewhat healthy.

If we trade Butch for a d-man, we're going to get a d-man back with a cap hit of 3-4.5mil with more term, who has underperformed.

If we trade Butch as part of a package, we could get something nice back, but it'll still be a player with at least as much money per year with more term.

If he can actually stay healthy this season and put up around 50 pts, I wouldn't be opposed to re-signing him to a one or two year deal. Cullen is the odd man out not Bouchard.
