Pöck is a depth sign. Will rack up a lot of points in the AHL but he's simply to weak for NHL duties. I'm somehow suprised that he has signed a two way contract for that less money. He would get a lot more in Europe/KHL after the great seasons he's had in Europe.

I believe he'll be similar to Holøs. Will have very limited time in NHL too, but still, will get a couple of games with Avs when the injury bug hits. If I'd have to bet, I would say about 3 NHL games for him this season.

What would Winnipeg need in a trade for Enstrom? After signing Jokinen, I guess they filled that centre need. I'd imagine a D back and something else?

I don't see them re-signing him, so a trade would be better than losing him for nothing next summer.

Wingers and defensive depth probably, maybe draft picks.

Any interest in Colaiacovo? When healthy he's good for 30 ish points, good puck mover, can log 20 minutes a night, also a lot cheaper then Carle would have been.

Word in Sweden is that Enström has set his mind on signing for one of the two big Swede colonies(Wings,Canucks) as a free agent.

I think he'd be an excellent fit on this team, and cheap to boot (maybe 2y3m per). low risk high reward type signing.

as a jilted Thrashers fan , Winnipeg Hater, and Lifelong Avs fan I can shed some insight into the Enstrom situation.

Enstrom was awesome for us in Atlanta...racked up consistent seasons generating 50 pts , solid defensive play... I'm sure you all have heard him being called pocket Lidstrom...pretty spot on comparison.

It would take Elliot + other pieces

Just curious, Liles and Enstrom are both 5'10, both offense first Dman. Is Enstrom Superior to Liles? In what way?

Tobby is an all-round d-man, he's an offensive dynamo and he's great defensively, he's much better than Liles.

Yes. Although I would never know how to spell his name. Though it's been a while since we've had someone that injury prone.

"Now, Coclaviavo, the Avs got themselves a really solid player here. No, he's not elite, not like a Pronger, but man, just great play all over the ice. Real solid, solid player."
"Peter, Colaiacovo actually played for Toronto, before he played with St. Louis."
"So he's used to wearing blue!"
(both commentors laugh for ten minutes)
"Ah...and remember folks, if the Avs win tonight, you can get a two dollar footlong at Subway tomorrow."
"Man, how many sandwiches could you get with Covlicci's salary, Mike?"
"Quite a few, Peter.[pause]Shane O'Brien turns the puck over and it costs the Avs in the dying seconds of the game...back after these messages."

My worst nightmare would be Kevin Bieksa joining the Avs because listening to Haynes call him "Bieska" every game, as opposed to just six times a year.

At least he's better than Don Cherry, Biecka, Buttercup, Lulongo etc.

Do people here agree that you don't make a multi-year contract and then throw player out (not trade, but waivers) just like that immediately? If so, Avs have stated that Johnson, Zanon, Hunwick, O'Brien and Wilson are going to play for at least this season as top-7 and if they are at least "ok", then for the next season too since they have contracts for 2013-14 also.

The only top-7 d-man that doesn't have contract for 2013-14 is Ryan O'Byrne, so basically you either trade (or waive) someone you just gave a multiyear contract or then you block the way of all of your d-men prospects. The third option is that you are 100% sure there will be injuries, but even then the prospects are just replacements. If not, then why to sign Greg Zanon? Why not a spot for one of Gaunce/Barrie/Elliott to replace Hejda for the time being? If the answer is that the defense is not good enough then, then why do you sign someone like Zanon instead of trading your second rounder to someone like Liles (that's his value, according to Sherlock) or making a trade like Stastny for a top-pair d-man?

I don't really understand why team has absolutely no trust on any of Gaunce/Elliott/Barrie/Siemens (for 2013-14). I can understand that not all of them are ready for 2012-13 to take a top-6 position, but the contract situation of Avs-D says that none of them are going to get a serious chance to take a full-time spot in 2013-14 either.

So a trade is needed to make that space for them. And in that trade
1) Avs needs a #1 or #2 d-man
which gets us to situation that
2) Avs needs to unload at least two d-men in that trade

This also at the same time means that if you are going to trade a forward (like Stastny) out, you really can't take a d-man in exchange - that is, unless you give at least two d-men out at the same time. Which team would need something like Stastny+O'Brien+Hunwick and in exchange for who?

What do I miss here?

I think we stand put. Stastny is not going anywhere. We might as well get that out of our heads.

I posted this in a different thread:

Is LA's defensive corps that much better than ours?

Drew Doughty - Rob Scuderi
Willie Mitchell - Slava Voynov
Alec Martinez - Matt Greene
Davis Drewiske

Compare that to:

Eric Johnson - Shane O'Brien
Jan Hedja - Ryan O'Bryne
Ryan Wilson - Greg Zanon
Matt Hunwick
