Hawerchuk in his prime was BETTER than Darryl Sittler and Bobby Clarke easily, and just a baby step behind Dionne and Perreault.
I agree with your comparison about Shutt and Barber and Propp. They were the 3rd and 4th liners on their teams.
I didn't see the 1976 Canada Cup games (just read about them in the papers as they were happening), but they sounded unreal.
I watched most of the 1987 series. Probably the best series of hockey I've seen.
Hard to pick a better team. '76 had more superstars and HOF'ers, '87 was a really good TEAM. I guess I'd have to go with the 1976 team, just on the strength of Bobby Orr. Dominating on one leg is something that hasn't really been done since. But that's not to say the '87 team wouldn't give them a heckuva fight in a 5 game series!
Jiggs, you obviously NEVER saw Clarke play.....pity.
That "D" will never be matched.....Orr - enough said, along with the Big 3 from Montreal.....I could have played goal behind Robinson, Savard, Lapointe and Nyrop.
