Evander Kane

Just wanted to know from Winnipeg fans on how the new contract with Kane is going if you guys are close, have even talked with him about a new contract, ect. Because I would love to see this guy in a Blue and White Jersey not saying there is a chance but just wanted to get opinions.

Why is this speculation or even a thread in the trade rumors section?

From what we have heard, contract negotiations started last Saturday. Other than that, it's been pretty quiet. Both sides shot down the rumour that Kane wants out of Winnipeg.

Nothing yet, but it will get done.
If I know Chevy, it will be "fair".
He should be the highest paid forward on the team after this.

He does not have arbitration rights as he's coming off an ELC. Only the team can file for arbitration, which I doubt they would do.

He's a typical RFA coming off an ELC, I assume that progress will be a bit slow as he has no arbitration rights so there's no huge rush to sign him.

Nothing has come out publicly that there will be any issue in getting a deal done.

Talks have already started, but Kane is represented by the same agent as Parise, so that was a higher priority.

Ahhh...Thanks. They'll get a deal done. Probably one that will take him to the final year of his RFA status.

Precisely this. Add in the fact that he has no arbitration rights, I will not be surprised if it takes quite a while to get him signed.

TBH I won't be shocked if he goes into September without a contract. I also will not panic, or be concerned that he wants out(or any other unfounded rumors). Sometimes Negotiations take time. I would imagine they take even more time when you don't have any sort of leverage (ie: arbitration)

Seguin isn't the starting point, it's the end point. In fact, I think I would take Seguin over Kane; Kane relies more on his pure athleticsm, while Seguin thinks the game really well, while not giving up too much in the athleticsm area. Plus, Seguin comes with one more year of RFA status.

Also, Seguin is the far better player and I say this as a big Kane fan.

As much as I like Kane, I would probably do a Kane-Seguin swap.

As much as i would Love to see Kane in Montreal, why the hell would the Jets trade him? Even if he is unhappy they have his rights for 5 more years. Would be idiotic to trade him because no return would be good enough for him. Boston will not trade Seguin for Kane, its a lateral move. THe Jets GM isnt an idiot, he is not trading Kane
