Its a gamble for both teams, can turn out really well, but what do they have to lose? If rick can stay healthy leafs get a starter and isles get a top 4 dman who can fill the void til Reilly is ready. Both players have horrible contracts and need a Change of scenery and start fresh.
While I find it amusing for Leaf fans to be on the receiving end of these types of proposals for a change, why in the hell would they trade 2 years of horrible contract for 9?

The OP is not from an Islander fan.
I think most NYI fans are waiting for him to retire or be bought out.
Don't get pissy because other teams aren't willing to play the Leafs role,in a repeat of the Bruins Sequin draft watch
Leafs will not be using a NYI 1st round pick, to draft a potential franchise player.
DiPietro's buyout will be $1.5m per,if he's bought out.
If he retires, insurance pays the bulk of his contract.
I pointed that out in this thread. That's what I meant when I posted buying out DiPietro would be more embarassing then anything else because it would be over 16-18 yrs.
Isles want the 4.5M cap hit, they wouldn't be so desperate to trade him away.
But no one wants to waste 4.5M a year for 9 more years, and that is very far from being desperate. I understand trying to get to the cap floor, but you'd be ridiculous not completely get rid of the contract at the cost of one 1st rounder.
If you really have trouble spending 4.5M a year tell Snow to ask Sather how to.
Honestly, I don't feel it's a priority to trade Komisarek, as most leafs fans do.
We are not super close to the cap, and we just got some cap relief by buying out Armstrong anyway. After trading Schenn there is no longer a surpluss of experienced D on the team, especially of the shut-down/defensive-specialist kind.
And I am actually interested in seeing what new coach Carlyle can do for Komi. Remember, this is the same coach that got Beauchemin back into form after leaving Toronto. I have high hopes that Carlyle can get Komi back into a player we could use.
This! I have a feeling Komi will do better under RC than RW

Pissy? In a league of thirty teams, what makes you think I care if the Leafs move Komisarek to the Islanders? For Dipietro? I don't care what his insurance is!
I'm sure if the Leafs wanted to they could convince a team to take Komisarek for a 5th or 6th round pick. If not this year then definitely next year when his salary is way lower than his cap hit. I also think he has a chance to turn it around this year under the new coach.

You didn't get pissy over Komi or DiPietro.
You got pissy when I said the isles, who drafted 4th overall in the recent draft, would not move next season's 1st rounder to salary dump DiPietro.
Look to land a potentially high, 2013 1st rounder elsewhere.

Burke/Seguin joke? From an Islanders fan?
It's not a joke.
Don't get bent because you are obviously hoping to see the Leafs, land a potentially high lottery pick the way Boston did in the Kessel trade.

Believe me, I don't care about any deal with the Islanders, picks or none, because Dipietro is so toxic the first round pick doesn't even cover the rottenness of that contract.

I wouldn't touch Dipietro if we got back your first round pick! There's no point in going near that train wreck. It's yours, for life, no one is getting bent over that one...

You mean Reinheart right? Rielly isn't on the Isles
This is a lose/lose situation for the Leafs. DiPietro isn't better than Riemer and Komisarek's contract is desirable to cap floor teams.

Ok.Again.
In my first post, I pointed out what a bad trade it is for the Leafs and that I can't understand why they'd do it because DiPietro can't stay heathy.
In later posts,I pointed out that Wang is not trying to salary dump DiPietro, the OP did not come frm a NYI fan and that if Wang has to buy him out, that this is Wang's concern.
No Komisarek might be bad but Rick is even worse and he is signed for 9 more years. Rather keep Komisarek in the pressbox at 4.5M for 2 more years. Rick is done.
DP is not in the team's plans for this year. Garth spoke at a recent meeting of former season ticket holders (please come back), and hyped the core of young players and prospects. He also praised their solid goaltending situation, having a vet like Nabokov to mentor up and coming Kevin Poulin and Anders Nilsson. It was no accident that he did not include DP.
Still, there will be no DP buyout. While the team has gotten no value since the contract was signed, management still likes him. Their true hope is that he gets back to full health and earns his salary at some point. The whole point of the 15 year contract was to spread out the salary and cap hit to make him a relative bargain over time. After 5 years, he is now the 11th highest paid goalie. If it had gone according to plan, halfway through the contract he would be a great goalie in his prime, with a cap hit below the average starting goalie. Obviously injuries wrecked that plan. However, the team hopes it's not too late. He's still only 30. They would like him to get back in net, whether it's 2013 or even 2014. If he can, then they would have a relative bargain in goal.
Even when Dp has been healthy the last few years he has been terrible. His contract has about another 10 years on it and you have Komi going to the Iles to fill the void until a leafs prospect is ready.
The above video is the correct answer, even though I'd do it in a heartbeat as an Isles fan but I don't know why in gods name any team would want D3P0.

I think his personel friend Wang still likes him.
I don't agree that there won't be a buyout though.Wang was also a personel friend of Yashin and eventually bit the bullet on a Yashin buyout.
47 games played over a 4 yr total, shows DiPietro can't stay healthy. It's too bad because he's such a competive kid.Still,he's young and outgoing enough, to move from player to another role in hockey like announcing.
