Filppula is 28 coming of his breakout season. He can play either center as a good shutdown guy or wing which he put up his best numbers. Kindl is a former 1st round pick who I still believe has top four potential. He's never really gotten his shot yet.
Horton is a gritty right handed winger who would look great in Detroit's top 6. He had a shortened season last year with the head injury but I believe he has recovered (could be wrong). McQuaid looks like a big right handed shutdown guy who can play a defensive role.
Boston would save roughly 1.7 million against the cap. Not sure if they would be willing to lose the grittiness for that savings or if it really matters to them.
at this moment in their careers i'd rather have filppula than horton, so this deal makes no sense to me from a detroit perspective.
I think points wise they will be pretty close. Filppula brings a better defensive game I believe but Horton would add a gritty right handed shot with size to our top six.
They need a shooter more than they need another pass-first type like Filppula, and they really value the size/power component a guy like Horton brings.
As a Red Wings fan I don't think the value is fair. Kindl is a kind of bust, Filppula is ok but does not bring anything special to the Bruins who have Krejci and Bergeron at center. On the other hand, Horton is a good power forward who are rare in the current NHL while McQuiad is a very tough dude in the blueline.
Don't get me wrong I would do this in a second as a Red Wings fan. I think Kenny wold do it too However, Chiarelly will not even consider this proposal.
I agree on McQuaid I think he would look great and we need a big guy to clear out the crease. Does he PK and how is he.
Yes he plays PK and I feel a little underrated cause we have to many RD compared LD .. He makes everyone pay if your around our goalie, he's tall so he has good reach and MAN can he throw a punch if needed.. Offense side haven't seen a lot but he does keep the puck in there zone really well.

Horton has only once scored more than 22 goals in the last four season. Filppula scored 23 goals last season to go along with his 43 assists, which gave him a point total better than Horton has ever achieved. More, he's faster and better defensively, and it seems he's finally reaching his peak now.
No thanks on this deal, especially as it'll have the Wings giving up a 1st and a 2nd also.
