I would bet GM's life they are done with Semin.

They gave out his number for rookie camp, supposedly as some kind of sign, since they never use current players numbers.

Personally as a Cap fan, I would have no problem bringing him back on another one year deal at about 6mil.

Likely? Hardly.

Hm, I can see stacking the first line, if you stand pat without a legitimate first line winger, but if you acquire Semin, why would you not go with Staal-Staal down the middle? Besides isn't it usually Jokinen/Ruutu not Skinner who plays 2LC now?

It would've happened already. Also Semin left Washington not because he wasn't paid enough.

I think people are going to be surprised at the low number on Semin's contract when if he signs in the NHL.

Just saying. There's still a lot of teams who need to reach the cap floor. I don't think he needs to go to Russia.

So you think Semin is going to sign with a cap floor team, one that doesn't have a chance to win? Hmm.. I don't know about that

I would do that in a heart beat as a Pens fan. Getting an elite right handed shot for our PP would be huge. I'm really curious to see if Semin will go for a short term contract to prove his worth or will just try and get the most money and years that he can right now.

I think NJ could use him to help lessen the loss of Parise and it would give them two crazy snipers in he and Kovy. I could also see Philly going after him because they have to try and make a blockbuster move every offseason.

Why not? If he'd rather win the World Championship every year instead of the Cup that's his right.

Yep, it's almost always Jokinen. Typically Ruutu if Jokinen isn't available for whatever reason. Skinner down the middle is simply experiment on the part of Muller and Maurice before him when it's happened.

My preference line wise is this if we do sign Semin:

Semin - E Staal - Ruutu
Skinner - J Staal - Jokinen
Tlusty - Welsh? - LaRose
Nodl - Brent - Dwyer/Stewart

bottom 6 is weak (sign Wellwood to help maybe?) though Welsh has promise and Tlusty and LaRose are pretty decent, but that's a nasty top 6 if it happens.

actually, there is mutual interest. Don't know where you're getting your info. Pens want a shorter term 1-2 year deal while Semin is looking for more. They are not seeing eye to eye yet but Semin has expressed interest in playing for Pittsburgh and that interest has been somewhat reciprocated by the Penguins.

I must ask the same question, where do you get your info? I hope that you're right but I haven't seen it reported anywhere that the Pens are or aren't interested in Semin.

But but but Semin says there's nothing special about Crosby. Pens would be wasting their money on this guy. but hey, I'm not really a Pens fan, and it's not my money! So who cares right?

Josh Yohe was tweeting about it. Nothing too revealing. I just meant it shows that this isn't one of those situations where we are absolutely closed off to the idea. May or may not be interested but he hinted at them at least inquiring about it. Can't find the tweet because they were a couple days old and I'm not gonna scroll that long for them

Semin will sign a 2yr/15mil deal with some cap-floor team, coast thru the season because his team sucks and get his paycheck.

Semin will sign a 1yr/6mil deal with a contender, prove his worth to said team then sign long term next year. My 2 cents.

HAH! The Staal trade thread has made me an absolute authority on Carolina top6 centers.

Don't really know much about your bottom 6 centers there, but that top6 looks positively sick. I kinda hope that Jordan gets to be the 2LC and clicks very well with Skinner for my personal entertainment reasons, but I guess him playing with Eric could be fun to watch too. Even though I still maintain that the Sedin chemistry comes from playing together all their lives much more so than shared DNA.

Semin has taken back-to-back one year deals with the Caps, so I'd be shocked if he didn't sign a long-term deal that takes him to retirement, like almost every other Free Agent the last few years.

I think many teams would give him a front-loaded long-term contract that brings him to age 39 or 40, paying him $1 million a year for the last 3 years with a cap hit around $6.5 million, not to mention a huge signing bonus that he gets right away so that if there is a lockout, he still gets paid (similar to Parise, Suter, and Carle).

I really want Semin to re-sign with the Caps. That is all.
