Maybe they go with 8 this time around. For me I'll be happy when Kabs and Weber are no longer on the team, whenever that ends up being.
I kind of want to see weber consistently at D for an extended period of time. Hate when he gets shifted to wing. Even if he ends up a PP specialist, we're always looking for that shot and end up paying for rentals to get it.
We have too many defensemen, when PK signs there will be Gorges, Subban, Markov, Bouillon, Diaz, Weber, Kaberle and Emelin.
So who gets moved? Any preference?
St.Denis may also be considered in the NHL group since we may lose him on waivers by sending him down.
I think at some point one or two will get moved, maybe for a player or maybe for a pick. Part of that may be us trying to sign a UFA(on defense or up front) that would impact those players. Maybe if we sign a stay at home d-man(Hannan) then 2 of Diaz/Kaberle/Weber get moved. If we don't get a top 6 winger maybe one of those d-men get packaged for such a player.

Having 8 d-men is the normal standard in today's NHL.
You don't remember last year what happened with the Habs ?... I'm not yet sold on Markov's recovery.
The only thing that I regret is that we don't have one or two very big d-man for the moment like LA got with Greene and Mitchell. Eventually Tinordi is gonna be around...
It could also be Kaberle...but I think before moving him they would have a guy that can play top 4 minutes coming in. Right now Markov Emelin Kaberle are the only real possibilities for top 4 ice time, Until Markov proves he is 100% back they'll want to have 5 guys that can play bigger minutes. Bouillon Weber Diaz would get #5-6-7.

maybe I don't understand the part about top 4 ice time but what about pk and gorges lol

You meant Subban, Emelin, Kaberle? and I doubt kaberle will get top 4 ice time since he suck bad, and where is Gorges?

I meant in terms of #3-4...obviously Gorges would be the other 2 along with 2 of those 3.
Prior to last year Kaberle had never played less than 21:15 per game on average every season of his career, most years were 22-25 minutes. It's not a big stretch to expect him to come back more focused and in better shape wanting to bounce back.
People on these boards too quickly forget that these people are pro athletes, they didn't get to where they are by never having advesity. Usually when they get adversity they step up and come back stronger unlike your neighbour on EI who quits as soon as the going gets tough. that's why I don't think it's a good plan to move Bourque or Kaberle unless we are getting value back or replacing them with a clear upgrade.
We don't have too many defensemen, we have too many similar players...
Kaberle, Markov and Weber all serve the same purpose, Markov being the most skilled obviously.
Replace one or more of those by Beaulieu, Ellis or Tinordi 6'3", 6'2" and 6'7" respectively) when they're ready and you're in business. We don't really need to add more players, but moving Kaberle and/or Weber and getting a big defensive D on a single year contract would be the best option, though unlikely.

Not many ledt in the UFA cupboard. I would give a try to Commodore.

Love it. I'm sure Bergevin feels the same way as well.
Something people need to remember about Kaberle too...he went VERY late in the Summer, and didn't get that many years or that much per year, his first time hitting uFA and coming off of not only all those 50ish point seasons in a row, but a cup as well.
The guy has his faults, and his contract reflected that. Last year Kaberle had a bad season with 2 teams that were quite bad for the season. Not entirely sure I'd be putting all that much blame one way or another on Kaberle, in either case. It's also hardly the first time someone has had a bad season, especially after a long playoff run. A guy doesn't play 974 games and get 560 points and all of a sudden at 34 just stop being a competent d-man. I expect people are going to be very pleasantly surprised by what Kaberle brings next season.
As for Bourque...I think a certain Mr. David Desharnais might play a big part in him having a big bounceback season after such a poor season last year.

Commodore's days are done.
I know Bouillon isn't big...but he's everything we could ask for out of a bottom pairing depth guy IMO. Other than being 5 foot 8.
The Habs need to try to focus on using their defensive corps great puck moving abilities, as well as stick checking to make up for their lack of size and net presence.
Truth be told though, Subban, Gorges and Emelin are all pretty tough SOB's.
It also wouldn't shock me if by March Tinordi was just straight up forcing his way into the line up. He skates and passes so well, if he's coachable it will not take long at all.
There are just the right amount to begin the season with,in case the Habs have injuries.Hoping the Habs trainers have the team in optimum shape and cut down on the games missed from injury.Having Prust,White,Moen and Bourque healthy to keep teams honest(No cheap shots, causing injuries)will help the team in that regard.Which saves players having to play more icetime than planned and the team can stick to their gameplans. All of those things create a snowball effect as the season wears on causing needs for rookies to take icetime their not experienced for yet.(creates losses)
