Kovalchuk and Alex Tanguay have the best shots in the NHL if you compare shooting percentage from where they take their shots. So both of the previous posters are wrong.

I really, REALLY want this deal to go down. As long as the contract isn't absurd, NJD and their fans deserve this after the betrayalton of the 4th.

The Devils would go from being a playoff-hopeful to a contender for the Atlantic Division itself.

Kovalchuk & Semin playing for Lamoriello's Devils? So it is this year, after all, the end of the world..

Prove everyone wrong? Most Caps fans expect him to regain his scoring touch with a change of scenery.

50/50 is a dream. He'll have to stay healthy AND put up a consistant effort over a full year AND have the right linemates. 3 things that have never happened for him.

I think he could put up 40+40 though in the right situation.

As a Devils fans I have to disagree. Kovalchuk scores an outrageous amount of goals from awkward positions and unexpected situations. His release is so fast. The analysis bears that out too. Then again I don't watch Semin consistently enough.

Either way, sure would love to see both of them on the same PP.

I would have loved to have seen it in the LAST playoff run sure.

I think Detroit is one of a few select "RIGHT" situations. I no longer believe that to be the case in Washington.

So you'd prefer Laich to be our #2 impact goal scorer then? I don't. Bring the guy back, we know our GM won't get us anything to replace him.

Listening to local radio here in Pittsburgh and they mentioned today that Semin's camp has contacted the Pens and if he's willing to take a 4-5 year deal as opposed to 7-10+ we may be interested...

I remember having a discussion recently with someone IRL who is also an Ottawa fan and as soon as I mentioned Semin still being on the market he was like 'I don't want Semin he's a floater and he would be the next Kovalev.' So I asked if he'd ever seen him play and you know how people hate being asked to actually support their assertions. Anyway, I informed him that Semin actually backchecks, and plays hard most of the time -- and that he's put up 386 points in his last 417 games (since the lockout.)

When you compare that to the other two big forward names being thrown around this summer...

Zach Parise: 410 points in 502 games
Rick Nash: 451 points in 520 games

You'll see that Semin has put up a higher ppg pace (Semin - .926, Parise - .817, Nash - .867) with less ice time than either of them, and a higher GPG pace (Semin - .448 , Parise - .386, Nash - .444)

But yeah...definitely wouldn't want a guy that has done nothing but produce since coming into the league on my team despite not being the go-to-guy on his team...no way...
The only people who wouldn't want Semin on their team are Canadian meatheads who think character is the only thing that matters. Semin is a hard worker and a good backchecker. He's probably not the best teammate but I don't think it's because of his effort on the ice - it's just because he's shy and doesn't speak English. I'll be very sorry to see him leave the Caps. And for everyone who makes fun of his fighting against Marc Staal, I'll quote Shooter McGavin: "Who won that fight anyway?"

If you want to know the truth about Alex Semin, try asking Cam Ward or Dwayne Roloson (aka, Semin's bizzos)

I dunno if it's the best in the world -- but it sure might be. Semin's wrist shot is absolutely filthy and near unstoppable if given the space.

He is KHL bound. He will want 6-7 million and no one will give him that.

His agent has said he's staying in the NHL and shot that rumor down pretty quickly

Yeah, we have been looking at the Josh Yohe (sportswiter for the Pittsburgh Tribune Review) quotes on the Pens' board, At least from Semin's side there seems to be some interest. This is the second that he has sent, with one yesterday, talking about Semin's interest in the Pens:

Quote:
Josh Yohe ‏@JoshYohe_Trib

Alex Semin's agent, Mark Gandler: "No question, playing in Pittsburgh would be great. Alex would love to play with either Malkin or Crosby."
Que the 'he finally noticed Crosby' jokes as that is who he certainly would be playing with if signed. They will not be breaking up the Neal-Malkin line.

Dupuis - Crosby - Semin
Kunitz - Malkin - Neal

It is not Parise, but as far as scoring goes, Semin should hit close to 40 goals if not surpass it with that lineup. Who do you send your top defensive pairing against? Has to be the Malkin-Neal line. Leaving your second pairing on Crosby and Semin. hope Shero takes a flyer on this as te Semi camp seems to be interested.

Do Neal and Crosby have no chemistry at all?

Neal-Crosby-Dupuis
Kunitz-Malkin-Semin

Seems a lot more balanced grit and skill wise.

**** this is gonna suck next year. Way to go GMGM!
