Ales Hemsky To Pittsburgh

The Pens lost out on Parise obviously and have a gaping hole in our top 6...

Anaheim is looking for help at center for Ryan and Columbus is asking a kings ransom for Nash...

Hemsky could be a great fit and if, which I know is a big if, he can stay healthy he could really be exactly what we need.

What kind of package would the Pens need to offer to get Hemsky and fellow Pens fans would you like him any more than the remaining free agents (Semin, Mueller, etc) or other trades (Stewart, Kulemin, etc)?

I think these are great trading partners with Pittsburgh's glut of D in the pipeline.

Morrow's stock is pretty high and he's already shown glimpses of what he brings to the table at the NHL level. I'd feel more comfortable with someone else even if we added a pick with it...If it were part of a slightly bigger deal with a few other names Morrow might be in play

If you want Hemsky, be prepared to offer something that reflects him returning to pre-injury form.

I'd target Setoguchi, Glencross, Kulemin, Stewart in a trade all before Hemsky. Or we could look for a stop gap now and wait and see whats there for the trade dealine and FA 2013.

Then expect to keep him. Would not give more than a mid level asset for him.

I'd love Stewart or Seto...what kind of offers would we be looking at?

That would be nice for the Oilers wouldn't it? Unfortunately that's not how it works. I think it'd be more than fair to give a couple of our solid but unspectacular D prospects. Bortuzzo + Strait would be solid return and you'd be getting two guys that look like they'll play in your top 6 as long as you want them to. Not sure how good they'll become, but I think they're legit NHL players this year if not next.

Tangradi and a mid round draft pick would be something I'd start with or Phil Samuelsson if they're looking for a defensive prospect

I can't imagine any team would rather ignore Hemsky's injury history (and subsequent drop in performance) and trade significant assets for him than a) sign Semin/Mueller for zero assets, or b) trade significant assets for other, more durable, younger, scoring wing options.

Bortuzzo and Strait are both nice little chips we have to play with right now...if we keep them they can easily fill in at the NHL level, if we deal them our defensive depth is still intact...I really think at least one of them became expendable with the addition of Dumoulin, everything I see from that kid says he's nearly NHL ready and could have top 4 potential eventually

You're expecting a quality return for him after he finally plays more than a half season for the first time in three years and puts his worst point total since the lockout?

Why do you want such a guy in your top 6 then?

Be prepared to be lowballed until he actually returns to his pre-injury form and stays on that level for more than 5 games.

I would't say this so soon,Ales Hemsky currently has no value and he hasn't played healthy for 3 years.

I definitely don't. I want no part of Hemsky in Pittsburgh. If we wanted him, we'd just sign Semin without giving up money and getting a much better goal scorer and much healthier player.

I'm not sure the OP is even a Penguins fan. If you hadn't noticed, no other Penguins fans here want any part in him. Unless he's coming ridiculously cheap, we're not even going to consider giving up any quality aspects to acquire him unless we're getting something else with him.

I don't think We'd be interested in your defensive prospects as we've got kind of a glut of our own. Course it never hurts to add more I guess if we're trading for making room.

Anyone off your current d-corps you'd be ok with letting go of?
Orpik or Martin perhaps?

To answer your question, I would prefer any of the FAs or trade targets you mentioned over Hemsky, but could live with him, if he could be had for a low price reflecting his injury history and bad contract. If the asking price is going to be anything even close to Joe Morrow then you can include Tangradi, Cooke and Kennedy in the wingers I'd rather see in the Pens top6.
