In a hypothetical scenario where you trade OV, you wouldn't necessarily become the "crapitals" if you get the right assets.

I am sure all Caps fans remember he said enough was enough in the Flyers series. He was a warrior, and I think turned that series around.
I always thought that as well. He isn't physical which translates into people saying he has no heart.

Now I think about it, a more physical Semin would be Kovalev. So I guess being more physical wouldn't do Semin any good since criticism on Kovalev might just have even been worse.

Crapitals this, crapitals that.. I don't understand what you're trying to say.

Trading Ovechkin is a recipe for a bottom 5 team both in talent and in cap spending. There would be about 10k season ticket cancellations pretty quickly.

On second thought, how about this Master?

Guess what I am trying to say, Oates reminds me of Joel Grey.
This older Oates is definitely starting to carry that vibe of a B-movie villain. Or,

Again, it depends on the assets you get in return. Probably won't get the correct value now though.

No way you're getting another bonafide superstar back for him, so the whole house of cards comes tumbling down.

Not with the remaining Caps' core, IMO certainly not for long.. If Ovi is not back to old form, the last years of his contract look potentially terrifying..

The contract doesn't look terrifying at all. Not to ownership, not as long as there's a wait for season tickets.

Ovechkin is here (hopefully) until he retires, barring a request from him to leave.

You don't need to.

Spitballing here, but if you could get Stastny+Landeskog+future piece that would be the type of return I'd look at.

When has trading a star of Ovechkin's stature ever yielded a particularly good return?

Dunno and I'm not advocating it. Just playing off hypothetical scenarios. Though another crappy year from him and it has to be considered.

I think fears of fans running away in droves if Ovi leaves are far overstated. Actually, I think most of the Ovi-era fans have grown up enough to want wins and recognize some flaws in his game. If the Caps continue to win and have some interesting young players like Kuz/Forsberg, I don't think the business side would suffer much.

But like I said, I don't want to discuss the politics. If politics/business overshadow winning for the Caps FO, there's nothing to discuss, anyway.

I dont know about all this SDF crap your throwing around. Most I think are meeting in the middle. Some love him, some hate him.

I think he's a good value at 5.5m, tops. One year.

That would make me happy.

To Warden's point in the last version of this thread, GMGM cant build a team for ****. So trusting him to use Semin's slot wisely, or "replace the Warrior" as CCF put it, is stupid.

Semin may be fool's gold, but so is having GMGM construct the replacements.

Another crappy year from Ovechkin and his contract is untradeable.

Beagle already in the film room with Oates, and says he'll make Alzner hit the gym with him when he gets back from the honeymoon.

Can we get someone to do that to Ovechkin?

Does his cap hit become significantly higher than his actual money? If not, I struggle to think of a team who would want to pay assets to acquire a 65 point winger with a 9.5M cap hit.

Semin is interested in playing in Pitt, according to the main Semin thread. Now, I'm not happy at all.
