Mangene. I would not be surprised at all if he made the team out of camp. The guys that are going to surprise and make the team will do it in the bottom 6. Mangene has good defensive awareness(which goes hand in hand with his versatility of playing forward and defense), speed, is a hard worker, and is physical.

Akeson. I like Read but we could then use him to trade for something. They seem like the same type of player.

Same here. If he ever gets his skating and puck handling to an NHL level somebody is gonna give him a try. Hopefully he does it here.

Very different. Akeson can't play 5v5 and is pretty bad defensively. That being said, his offensive skills are better.

Does Akeson kill penalties? Read was a decent 200 footer last year, not great but big enough to contribute. Akeson is all offense, no?

No. Read is by far the better player defensively but he's also 4 years older. Not saying Akeson will ever be as good as Read defensively just that he still has time to improve in that aspect. Offensively though I do think that Akeson could be the better of the two.

IDK man, 24 goals, +13 in the NHL isn't too shabby. I think Akeson ought to be gunning for someone else's spot. I don't know who's really, the whole forward corp is pretty damn good. Maybe he should ask for a trade to Columbus.

Kessel is a guy who gambles a lot on his pinches. It is something he always going back to his UNH guy. I still think he needs to work on his overall game. He is still aways away.
Ill be interesting to see how Trevor Van Riemsdyk looks in prospect camp.
I know people are pulling for Akeson. He seems like a slong shot to me at making the club this year. He has a LONG way to go defensively. His offensive instincts seems to be there so thats a good thing.
having to choose a guy ill go with Manning. Just so it can make the Flyers staff decision more difficult. Especially after signing Gervais

I think Cousins will do well, and I hope Mangene does well because I like what I read about him, so I voted for Mangene.

In all likely hood Akeson doesn't make the team out of camp but if a top 6 forward goes out with an injury for more then a game or two I could see him making his NHL debut. I don't really see him pushing anyone out of a spot but if the Flyers lose forward depth in a trade he's the only phantom I could see stepping in and actually having an offensive impact.

I likw what I saw from him also. One guy I want to see play is Johnston followed by Laughton. Dam this team is starting to stockpile some young talent at all positions.

Looking at the roster. Really dont think any of the Dmen you listed will get much time. We are going to open up with

Kimmo-Schenn
Coburn-Grossman
Mez-Gervais (most likely)
Then you have Lilja, Bourdon, Gus.

Guess I could see someone being moved and Manning being inserted so he would be an option. So it would take a lot of injuries for one of your guys listed to move up.

Forwards, top 9 is almost set with giroux, briere, hartnell, voracek, schenn, couts, simmonds, read and one open spot maybe.

Then you have Talbot, Rinaldo, fedotenko at the 4th line most likely. But no one to center that. So ill go with cousins. Akeson might have a role is injuries are hitting the flyers hard and they need a top 9.

So If i had to pick, I would go with Wellwood and Cousins.

Picked Noebels, because many others weren't. Guess that'd make him a surprise, wouldn't it?

it would be nice to see holmstrom win the 4th line center gig. I want to see how he does for a stretch especially on face offs.

Talbot/Sestito - Holmstrom - Talbot/Wellwood/Rinaldo

HA! Anyway something tells me Manning sees a lot more time with the big club this year as well.

Akeson led the Phantoms in scoring and still wasn't one of the black aces. We'll likely see him in a few pre-season games, but I don't think he's that high up on the depth chart.

LOL. missed that typo.
People seem to be really high on Manning. Might end up being a injury replacement tho unforunately afte they signed Gervais and with Lilja still around.
