That was the same year Cheechoo won the Richard Trophy, wasn't it?
Good comparison actually. Superstar Joe Thornton bounced pucks off of Jonathan Cheechoo in a similar way that Ales Hemsky bounced pucks off of Shawn Horcoff.
75 points is impressive regardless of what year it was and if the goal totals were magically inflated.
He isn't around to score goals. He's around to get assists. This is the same guy who made Shawn Horcoff a 75 point player.
First off, not to nitpick but Horcoff scored 73 points. That was in 05'-06'. To give context to this, that was the year Cheechoo scored 56 goals and Brian Gionta scored 48.
Gotta love those hanger on'ers for talking about Hemsky. It's convenient to not mention this great play of his was 7 seasons ago, which can be an eternity for an athlete.
I guess I missed the part where - like Hemsky - Crosby's production slipped. Last I checked, he was as productive than ever when he came back.
You're totally right, we should wait and see if Crosby ever plays 30 games in the NHL again before we talk about his production over a season. How many games did he play in the last two years... 41 followed by 22 games??

Was pointing out the hypocrisy displayed by some Pens fans not comparing the players directly. But thanks for coming out!
We're fine with keeping him. If we could get an asset that helps the team right away, great, but we won't be moving him for a pile of beans.
Paul Martin (should he waive his NTC) and either a first in next years draft or a Simon Depres/Joe Morrow level prospect.
So you want a top 4 NHL dmen + A close to NHL Ready top 4 dmen prospect?

Martin for Hemsky is probably fair value, Personally I'd hold on to Martin over Hemsky right now and I definitely wouldn't add a 1st even if it's conditional.
Hemsky for Paul Martin is the only trade that seems reasonable to me. Both have the same cap hit, fill a need (Pens - skilled winger) (Oilers - veteran Dman), and could use a change in scenery. I don't think this should be Shero's first choice, but maybe a backup plan if other things don't work out.

I want a top four NHL defenseman who has showed signs of slipping and has a contract that isn't the greatest, and a prospect defenseman who shows promise. If Martin was on a better contract and showed more signs of being able to return to form, I would be more willing to do it straight across.
