I wouldn't worry because
1 GMJN isn't the coach and probably won't force Gully to do anything.
2 Wandell was horrible when he was in the top 6

Not at all. If they thought he had that kind of potential, he would have been qualified right away with the better RFAs. He's a spare, and they know it, which is why it took so long for them to decide if he merited a spot.

No he wasn't. Wandell looked pretty great when he got the chance to fill-in on the scoring lines. The best he did all year for sure.

And one thing I think we're all forgetting here.... how is Wandell going to be Captain if he doesn't get qualified?

Wandell for Captain.

That's what I'm scared of. He was searching for a better option through the trade routes, didn't find one, so that's why it took longer.

He didn't look out of place, but I wouldn't say he looked great. Great for him, absolutely, but I wouldn't expect more than 40 points even in an increased role.

Wandell didn't look good as a 2nd line player. He scored a fluke goal and otherwise did nothing.

The team was desperate for top line scoring late in the season and even ran a college player out there for a couple of games. If they thought Wandell was suited for the role at all, wouldn't they have played him up there when they needed help the most?

eh it doesnt really matter. If Wandell gets 2nd line ice time it means he has either impressed enough to earn it (doesnt seem like a negative to me) or we just couldnt find anyone more deserving, in which case the stars will suck (as expected) and will just have higher draft picks to use during the rebuilding phase the team needs to go through.

That sounds way to zen for you. Where's the "I don't even care" avatar pic?

I just dont think theres much reason to worry about anything they do during this particular offseason. They are very unlikely to be able to drastically improve the team right now without giving up significant prospects which would be pretty silly.

I have no clue how Piqued and I finally agree on something, but Wandell played GREAT on the second line.

Wandell is officially signed now that he's accepted the qualifying offer:

Dallas Stars forward Tom Wandell has accepted his qualifying offer. It's one-year, one-way, $892,500.

Here's a thought ... Tom Wandell is likely going to eat a ton of healthy scratches. That's not going to help him develop one bit. He never really spent much time in the AHL either.

He would require waivers, but you can typically sneak guys through at the beginning of the year when teams have warm, fuzzy feelings about their current roster.

It might be worth the risk, but you'd have to send him down and leave him alone. With his contract, you'd have to recall him on re-entry, and you'd probably lose him.

He could get a ton of minutes at ES and on both the PK and PP. It's definitely a thought, IMO.

Reilly Smith-Tom Wandell-Scott Glennie
Francis Wathier-Travis Morin-Alex Chiasson
Mike Hedden-Toby Petersen-Austin Smith
Antoine Roussel-Matheiu Tousignant-Luke Gazdic
13th Forward-14th Forward

Jamie Oleksiak-Tyler Sloan
Jordie Benn-Patrik Nemeth
Hubert Labrie-Jace Coyle
7th Defender

Jack Campbell/Christopher Nihlstorp

I like Wandell as a 4th liner. He's quick, and he actually does a surprisingly good job of taking the puck up to the ice to the opposing team's zone where his fellow 4th liners can (sometimes) keep it. Scoring he does not do well. But for now he's fine there.

I agree with that it's just when you look at the roster and listen to what GMJN has been saying ... it's hard to see how he fits in the Top 12. Where and when will he play?

GMJN mentioned Eakin was going to be a 2/3 center this season (before trading for Roy). That means after the Roy trade you're looking at Benn, Roy, and Eakin down the middle on the Top 3 lines hopefully.

It's hard to imagine he'd get a shot over Fiddler to center the 4th line. I do believe he'd be a very good winger, but is he really going to play over Morrow, Vincour, Nystrom, or Fraser on the wing. I don't think so.

I think he's a better winger than Nystrom.

That said, we need the grit Nystrom and Garbutt bring badly, moreso than what Wandell brings.

I wonder what would happen if he centered Vincour... Just a thought.

He means that this will help the lineup with Roy missing time. Now, Wandell can go from being a healthy scratch to the 4th line center while Fiddler slides up to the 3rd line and Eakin slides up to the 2nd line center spots.

No, it's that Wandell will take the 2nd line center spot and become an offensive force.

tbh I was thinking this too, if Eakin doesn't get the spot.

Prediction: Glennie knocks training camp out of the park and slides into the #2 center spot and never looks back.

Probably not though.

He's got the talent, just has to find to drive.

Any chance Molin would get a shot, or is he not NHL ready?
