Minnesota-Columbus

I usually stick to just Dallas Stars proposals, but I was thinking about this one while looking at the Minnesota Wild roster.

With a current payroll of $68,848,867 per CapGeek, Minnesota will likely have to dump salary when the new CBA is completed and the cap goes down.

To Minnesota: Steve Mason

To Columbus: Niklas Backstrom

This reduces Minnesota's payroll to $65,748,867. That may not still be enough.

However, Columbus gets a proven back up for Bobrovsky, and Minnesota allows Harding to become the starter. Mason gets a change of scenery, and he's a threat to push Harding for the starting job.

I'd do that in a heartbeat but I'd also venture to say that Backstrom would be our starter for his salary and skill set.

No freaking way! We want to continue moving forward, not backward. Wouldn't touch Mason with a 10 foot pole. That would be one very uneven trade. Goaltending has never been the weakest link for Minnesota, so why shoot a hole in it with that guy? Uh-uh.

WOW, just wow. IF the Wild need to slash SOME salary they wouldnt do it by dumping their #1 goalie for a #3 string goalie. (yes, Mason would be #3 at best on the Wild) They would do something with Cullen, Heatley, Bouchard or someone else. Backstrom does not have negative trade value, imagine what Toronto would trade for him.

What about a deal that involves Clutterbuck & Jack Johnson?

Not happening as well.

I mean, Johnson was a big acquisition for them. He's an important player.

I was just shooting for an equally absurd proposal - I think I did okay.

First of, Backström has a no trade and we have him only for this season in wich he can get this team some playoff experience..

But we can give you Bouchard and Stoner for Jack Johnson.

3 no trade clauses involved. Doubtful both Backstrom and Heatley want to go to Columbus. Not sure Nash would come to Minnesota.

Wild don't just hang up the phone on Columbus, they actually shoot the phone and mail its remaining debris to Howson with a note that says "Get bent".

The best part of this is, you have CBUS trading for a 6M dollar goalie to be a backup for Bobrovsky

Let's be fair, he may not be a superstar, but he's a definite first liner.

That said, no to Mason and Backstrom. We want the playoffs this year, and a Harding/Mason duo won't do

I still don't want him anywhere near the team I root for. Not a fan of Nash at all. He's been part of the problem in Columbus.
