In before Penguins fans come here to propose Martin is a number 1/2 defenseman and ask for Datsyuk.

My personal choice would be mike green of washington. what would it take to get him. off the table for detroit
(Zetterberg,Datsyuk,Helm,Kronwall,Smith and Howard), everything else would be negotiable, top prospect included!

Is it just me or Holland might be a bit overrated?

I mean no disrespect or anything, I always liked the guy. He did some pretty good moves since he's been Detroit's GM but face it, the Wings got lucky with Datsyuk & Zetterberg and Holland has been able to surf on his team for the past couple of years and only had some tweaking to do in recent years, having players taking paycuts to stay there.

Now that he lost 3 of his highest ranked d-men and could not do a thing about replacing them adequatly yet might be his biggest challenge and we will see what he's made of.

One thing's for sure, he lacked some vision and banking on the only top UFA D-men available to sign there was very risky to say the least and it backfired, putting the team in a vulnerable position.

Top 4 defensemen are worth their weight in gold. Matt Carle now makes 5.5 mil per for the next 6 years, for crying out loud. If Detroit wants one, they're going to have to pay through the teeth.

And that'll more than likely involve tapping into the stable of young forward prospects they've been collecting. Fanbase probably won't like that option, but it's the price of remaining competitive as stars age and move on.

And even then other teams are going to have more assets to trade. Its going to be tough on Detroit to get a top Dman even in trade. Martin or Jaybo may be the most realistic option. Although seems to be both Martin and Jaybo would be good fits in Detroit and could possibly be had for cheaper then a true top flight dman.

Yeah that is not my best attempt, there is something to be found here as far as a 3 way for nash, questions is what do we have to give?

Something like maybe? I don't know this could be worse, honestly I'm not very familiar with detroits prospect and which ones Columbus would be interested in. Drew miller then would be 3rd line with Anisimov and Hagelin or callahan

IMO the Wings should trade Datsyuk and Zetterberg for as many 1st round picks and blue-chip prospects as possible, tank out 2013, and basically rebuild their team in a year.

Possibilities of being or becoming available may include .....

- Martin
- Enstrom
- Ballard
- Kaberle
- Hainsey
- Boyle ????

Perhaps Yandle, but that would require a MASSIVE package and the Yotes only consider this if they are comfortable with Gormley and or Rundblad moving forward.

That might be the best thing for the team to do but would the fanbase really be ok with that after so many years of being a top team? Once you go down that road you are lookig at about a 4 to 5 year rebuild.

Liles could be a top 4 guy for you, what would you be willing to give up to get him?

Plenty of dman (Lubomir, Liles, Gill, Methot, Wideman, zidlicky, grossman, schenn etc) have traded over the last few years and some for cheap. Some are only 3/4 but there were deals to be had and this is more poor risk management on Holland's part or perhaps over-optimism. This is his job and he had plenty of forewarning.

Because they are Kronwall and White and we know what they have to offer. These are not young up and comers these guys are what they are at this point. I'm down for a rebuild shipping out anyone but Dats and our top prospect and try to stockpile as many picks and young talent as we can. I do not want to end up like the flames scratching and crawling for a playoff spot every year with no real chance of winning anything.

Any interest in Tomas Kaberle? Still a serviceable PMD that can put up points on the PP. Not the best offensively, and not the greatest contract (still, after the Wideman and Carle signing, it suddenly looks decent), but he would still be in contention for a top 4 job in Detroit.

Plus, the Habs would be all in to ship him out of town, at least the fans. It wouldn't take all that much, a prospect and a pick maybe, to pry him out of Montréal.

Because let's be realistic here. The Wings do not own many valuable assets to trade for top 2 defensemen, aside from Datsyuk and Zetterberg, whom are untouchable, apparently. Then there's a major drop-off to Filpulla (sp?) and Franzen, who might worth a number 3 at best, most probably a solid number 4.

The most interesting up and comer is Smith, but judging by the situation of the team, it wouldn't make much sense to trade him, unless they want to take the Calgary Flames approach and go all out for the playoffs year in year out...

This may officially be the end of the reign of the mighty Detroit Red Wings. A rebuild might be the best option at this point. No blue-chippers coming up, aging roster and lack of depth. Wouldn't be surprised to see them miss the playoffs this season, and then who knows what happens. Maybe Holland will wait for the 2013 free agents to really make a decision whether the team should rebuild or not.

Jeff Petry is from Michigan. He is a solid up and coming top 4 guy. Depending on what happens with Klefbom, Marincin, Gernat, and Davidson I could see Detroit inquiring about him. Either that or the Oil try and shop Whitney.

The guy that make the most sense is JBo IMO. Wings have the space to add him.

Out of curiosity what about something from Anaheim around Lydman for Filpila(SP)? What would we have to add? Don't think the Ducks are very interested in moving Lydman but we desperately need a 2nd line center.
