Again, that's not what I was responding to. "Keep him" to me meant, well, "keep him," i.e., permanently, not "wait until we get the best deal." If I misunderstood, my apologies.
No need to apologize, just pointing out which position makes the most sense for Gillis.
In that case my bad, just everything else I have been seeing says we must trade him before the season starts, where IMO I think nothing has really changed, and I would like to move him as soon as possible, but would be willing to wait until the best deal came.
No problem. I agree you don't have to trade him before the season starts, but I also think it would be best for all concerned if you did. It would certainly be the fairest thing for Luongo. IMO he deserves the fairest treatment possible from the team because he's certainly being more than fair with them.
Cap hits and length roughly even.
Chi keeps there cap space but adresses a big need in net. Then look for other options up front
Van gets a top 6 that can pass and score. They lose some cap flexibility but hossa is worth the money and they have other contracts they could lose.

Completely agree, it's just not always fees-able, I mean hypothetically if the only thing being offered is Komi, we don't do it as that makes us considerably worse for two years.

Pretty sure the Canucks would take a bag of pucks over a return of just komisarek
I would do it, but with terror in my heart, because it would make Chicago a very legit cup contender and enormously more difficult to play against. Frolik and Emery indeed.
Yeah sorry, Luo's not even close to being worth Hossa.
You can say you won't give up Hossa, but valuewise they're very similar:
Same age, almost same cap hit, both elite players, Luongo's term is longer, Hossa's coming off an injury, both fill needs with the other's organization(with Chicago's need being greater).

With Luongo, I'm sure we'd become the Cup favorites. I don't know if that's a good thing though. Luongo's cup favorite teams don't turn out well
