To be fair, and not in a xenophobic way, almost every Russian I've ever met has a different type of "character".

I see nothing wrong with his game personally....matter of fact Kovalchuk's game is far more flawed than Semin's.

I would agree .

I also believe that Semin's shot is better than Kovy's. Also Semin does not pass up good shots like Kovy. Kovy looks to pass alot. If you give Semin a good chance he will shoot it, and he does not shoot low. He always shoots high which is a huge problem on this team

Kovalchuk's game is flawed to a certain extent but the stuff he can do to counter it, can be somewhat amazing

Comparison

Shot - Semin but it is very close. If Semin is #1, then Kovy is #2
Passing - Kovy
Skating - Kovy
Defense - Semin
Work Ethic - Kovy

But the issue comes down to character. Id rather have a flawed player with a great attitude which Kovalchuk very much is than a guy that could possibly poison a lockerroom that plays a solid all around game.

I don't know anything about him personally, but it does come up by too many people for it not to be real.

I feel like the Capitals locker room didnt have enough leaders. I think our leaders such as Bryce/Kovy/Patty/Marty can keep Semin in check

Kovy would not allow Semin to pull a "Langenbrunner" on this team.

I would completely and unequivocally trust Lou on making the character assessment.

If Lou went with Semin I'd believe there is enough "good" for the risk.

What are "character issues"? Guy is a paid professional and is gonna try to win. Anyone who actually thinks the guy is a cancer and will hurt this team with his "character issues" severely overrates whatever that is. I'd rather have a highly skilled player than a no skill canadian character guy. These types of things are so overrated in all sports. Locker room presences in football or clubhouse guys in baseball are so overrated. Players who perform help your team. Funny how these perceptions of players go away once they win. Even if they don't change how they are at all

If he comes to the Devils, there will be no character issues. end of story. Lou wouldn't bring him in if he thought otherwise. This is the New Jersey Devils...

Play responsible. Take risk only deep in the offensive zone. Don't force a plays for low reward near the blue lines. Back check hard every shift. Use that massive body far more often especially along the walls in both ends. Dump the puck when there is no play.

According to the Ottawa Sun

Detroit and NJ are the only teams left in the running. Not sure if it is true

Kovalchuk isn't a flawed player, he's the best winger in the game.

Yea, this team has a solid locker room with more veteran leadership than any other team in the NHL. I mean the avg player age is almost 30! I don't think that will be a problem, and we really do need some quality NHL players to fill in the holes in our lineup.

Right now I see this team as:

Kovy - Zajac - ??????
Elias - Henrique - Zubrus
???? - Josefson - Clarkson
Gionta - Carter- Bernier

And that is assuming Josefson is ready for a top 9 role. He has shown potential but not the ability to consistently score.

I'm interested to see who else we are looking at to fill those rolls.

The names left are: (From Capgeek)

i remember hearing in one of those NHLPA surveys that semin won best wrist shot multiple years in a row, as voted on by the players themselves. I would obviously like to find the article for some proof, but i would agree with them hand over foot. his wrister is second to none.

If we can't make the deal for Semin, I think we need to do a combo like Doan and Mueller. Both short term fixes definitely, but can help us with some production drop off.

I'm starting to warm up to Semin. Fact is, the potential of losing Zajac next year scares the hell out of me. And with the amount of contracts ending he may be worth the risk. 4yrs 28 mil.
