Both teams have needs and depth to replace (immediate or soon to be) what they would be giving up to fill said needs. Plus, this summer stands to be one of multiple moves for many teams. (ie, follow up deals are likely.)
Why would St. Louis trade Halak, whose contract looks like a bargain right now?
Brian Elliott had a fluke year, he's not good goalie at all.
I'd overpay for 10 years of Halak over 4-5 years of Luongo but it's not that easy to get a goalie.
They just took a HUGE step ahead in winning their first playoff series in nearly a decade (that's even worse than us despite us not making the playoffs for like 7 years).
Defense wins championships, they've got a stud in Pietrangelo..I honestly don't think the Blues are that far from winning it all if Schwartz, Tarasenko etc develop nicely. They can be traded to get immediate help (like the Kings did with Richards, Carter etc).
If they trade Halak, they're not going to be as good and that's a trade they won't do.
It has been agreed upon that Stewart is worth at least Gunnarsson and a 2nd. IF they were available, do you really think you could get Halak AND Rattie for that?
Halak=Rynnas&2ndpick&4thpick
Stewart>>>Gunnarson
Ty Rattie?Kulemin (hard to say, =?)
Anyway trade is already favoring the leafs without the pick. The only think here useful is Gunnarson because hes a lefty but this trade is an absolute no-go
And nothing of value was traded to St Louis that day
You're ridiculous. Gunnarsson has been seen as one of the most under-rated up and coming defenders in the league and Kulemin (with a bounce back year) has far more upside than the departing Stewart.

Although the OP's deal is tilted heavily in the Leafs favour, I wouldn't ever put much stock in what HF has "agreed" Leaf players are worth. The last few season HF has undersold almost every Leaf to be traded (Versteeg, Kaberle, Beauchemin, Schenn, hell even Lebda...)

Are you kidding? Kulemin can just have a bounceback year so why can't Stewart?
Stewart has put up 64 points, Kulemins put up 57. Stewart is tough and drops the gloves. He's also younger than Kulemin. What is Kulemins HUGE advantage over Stewart?

Kulemin has far more upside than Chris Stewart? Is this a joke? Stewart has scored 28 goals twice in the NHL in 4 seasons. Kulemin has had one good season in his career, and was just as bad as Stewart last year. Kulemin's best season of 57 points in 10-11 was nearly matched by Stewart in 20 less games. Stewart had just 4 fewer points. Absolutely no way Kulemin has more upside than Stewart.
Or how about you offer pieces that wont just be AHL depth to St. Louis for Stewart? The only assets Toronto has that hold value to STL are
1) Kessel(but not as much as you think since we are loaded with wingers)
2) Gardiner if he players the left side could develop into a good Coliacovo replacement.
And right now we aren't really interested in moving roster players to fill holes so if you want to trade Gardiner for a first and third just let us know.
Well Gunnar is actually quite good. I wouldn't give him up typically but in an offer like this, it's hard to say no.
I'm not disputing Gunnarson's abilities, I think he is a very good defenseman. However, I'm not sold on the idea that he is what the Blues need to fill their top pairing LD position. Also, if this thread is a guide, it appears the price to obtain him would be pretty steep.

Wait... so you'd trade Halak for Rynnas, a 2nd and a 4th??? Where do we sign?
As for the rest of your comment. Gunnarsson is far more valuable to the Leafs than Stewart would be, and with Rattie, you're comparing a project to a player who's 1 year removed from 30 goals in the NHL combined with being one of the best defensive forwards on the team.

Well in that case we can just not do any of this proposal.
