SEL moves the goal line

So, how about this?

I'm torn. I like that they are trying to do something but I'm not really sure how it will pan out. This will actually increase the space on the rink (well except for the space behind the net) making it 1,4 meters (4,6 feet) longer from goal line to goal line. But at a quick glance it should mean more space for defenders to cover and more space for offensive players to use.

In short for non swedish readers:
The SEL will move the goal line back 2,3 feet (70 centimeters, 0,7 meters) closer to the boards, from todays ~13,1 feet (4 meters) to ~10,8 feet (3,3 meters). They will test it during the preseason and if it turns out ok it will be implemented from the start of the regular season. The reason is that the league wants a more open and entertaining attacking hockey to be played.

If I'm not mistaken this will make the space behind the net equal to the NA size.

Sounds reasonable. I don't think it'll change the amount of scoring a whole lot but we'll see. How about moving the bluelines 70cm into the neutral zone, aswell?

Hopefully we'll see more players driving to the net, thus increasing the chance of garbage goals being scored.

I also want to see the blueline moved back ~1m.

Im not saying moving the goalline is good or bad, but whats good about more garbage goals?

For a league with under five goals per game, any goal is appreciated.

Whaaat? Really under 5 goals per game?

I think moving goal line is pretty good idea. But they should also make the goals less deeper so there would be also more space just behing the goal.

4,88 average this season. I think that includes the PS winning goal aswell, but could be wrong.

I guess it never hurts to experiment in the pre-season.

Hopefully it's more thought-out than when they were experimenting with the puck out rule in the pre-season one year and first had it where you could get a penalty from anywhere on the ice. Obviously it wasn't that well thought-out, which Niklas Nordgren demonstrated when he got a penalty for lobbing the puck over the boards when he tried to score on a breakaway.
