I don't think he meant it like that. I just don't think he'd want any of those players if the Ducks had to give up something significant.
This would never happen ever, but would the Pens say no immediately to Geno for Ryan and Getzlaf?
Don't worry ... Ducks say no. We become a worse team with this trade even though we end up with the better player.
Ducks' depth immediately takes a big hit with a 1 for 2 trade, and we likely would also lose Perry in the offseason. I wouldn't be surprised if Malkin goes UFA in a couple of years so he can escape Crosby's shadow and probably get more than $8.7M per season, but let some other deep pocketed team worry about signing him.

Getzlaf publicly stated that he did not have his personal life in order and admitted to having a hard time on the road. He will be much more focused and better next season.

I just had a baby two years ago. While things do get easier, it takes a LONG time to recover. I don't think I got more than 4 hours of sleep for the first year at least. I am assuming it is the same way with him. I could hardly work my day job, so I can imagine how hard it was to get up early, go to the rink, and try to play against professionals.

In all fairness, I'd imagine there are many players who go through the same thing, yet don't have such down years. Not saying it didn't contribute to his offensive woes, but he needs to be able to work through that, especially since he's elite and the Captain of his team.
I will admit, this is the best Leafs/Ducks trade offer I have read all summer. Maybe this could formalize around the trade deadline if we can't resign Getz. We all know Burkie could resign him no matter what

In other news, Saskatchewan plays Edmonton tomorrow in the CFL, so Ryan Getzlaf's brother Chris has a chance to catch a few TDs and hopefully embarrass the opposition. No one on the Eskimos' roster named Schultz for him to clobber, unfortunately.
