He should be trade bait, he definetly won't get any better and if he does stay he should relinquish the "C."

Last year through the that whole mess, I can't remember him speaking to the media, even though he was injured, he didn't speak, and mostly likely why? He couldn't speak French.

So do we need a captain that speaks french, why not, what else do these guys have to during the day. Rosetta Stone, I'm sure they can afford it or have the team buy it or the player's union cough up for it.

Gionta is definitely the "grinder" type of player. King of garbage goals. One thing NJD fans complained about when he left is that they lost *their* guy that went to the net to screen/tip/jam in rebounds. That was also something the Habs missed for the longest time. He also has an amazing slapper like you mentioned.

I am a big fan of Gionta. Those with short memories or the newer fans don't really remember but he was really good for us. He will help the team win by not only scoring 20+ goals, maybe up to 30 if he has a good season, but also by being an inspiration to the team. A guy his size playing his game and being good at it is amazing. He's a leader on the ice.

I say 26 goals, 20 assists and some good PK'ing.

In his first two seasons I remember him being a really solid player who worked hard but was sort of unremarkable in the sense that you weren't watching Gionta every time he was on the ice, but then at the end of the season he ended up with a bunch of goals.

I hope he can stay healthy because I think he'll do well with this kind of line-up. Give him some supporting players who can make room for him and he'll plant himself right in front of the net and get a bunch of garbage goals.

It's likely people aren't to high on Gio even though he has scored nearly 30 goals a season due to the number botched pot-ins he has had.

What do you guys think of trying to trade Kaberle and some other dead weight to the devils for Elias. We have some time to kill while youngsters develop and this just might work to get Gomez going and giving Gio a spark. Could be a solid second line for scoring if it worked.
Not so much as a cure for the future, but could add immediate spark for a bad situation that can't get any worse.

I'm hoping for a season in which he stays healthy.

If he stays healthy for the entire season, I'd say 27 goals, 24 assists, 51 points.

if we're using markovs best seasons to conclude that he'll be performing at a peak level can we just assume that gionta will score 48 goals this year too?

If he finds a way to stay healthy, I would bank on him having a big year...

The injury last year ended his season, but with him I have a feeling it translates to a great offseason preparation wise...

He was pissed about being out last year, he's going to be eager to have a "statement" type year.

I'll go with 32 goals, 34 assists, for a 66 pt season.

28 goals and 20 assists is what im hoping for ; not quite 30 goals and a couple less assists. That coupled with his speed, puck pursuit and defensive play makes him a very valuable vet to have around.

He gains 1.1 kilos. He plays for 14.2 minutes per game for 48 games. He eats 3 meals per day 6 days per week. He wears blue socks 2 times per week. He endorses Molson'
Products once a year. He drives to work. He lives in the US in the off season.

The 3rd worst captain in the NHL will produce 19 goals, 15 assists. The worst 2 are Horcoff and Hejduk btw

This is a guy that as he gets older, he'll be the perfect veteran presence that chips in gritty offense and plays good defence. By the time, the kids graduate, he'll fit in that role. For now, I want 50 pts. 2nd PP/2nd PK.

I like Gionta also but hes being really overvalued here.
16 goals 25 assists is where he'll end up.

Lol wut?

How is he being overvalued?

Are you predicting he'll have an injury shortened season or something? With that 16 number?

The guy averages 27.5 goals per 82 games played in his career. That does include his inflated post lock out 48 goal season, but it also includes his first 91 games where he had 16 goals.

But all of a sudden he's going to play healthy enough to get 25 assists but not score 20?
