Well can he coach an effective PK in the modern NHL?

Apparently his grandkids live in California. Seems like family is dictating a lot of these decisions (Stuart, Parise, Suter).

Nice! We may not be able to sign free agents, but at least we signed a great assistant coach!

I don't know if he was in charge of it, but he comes from the Devils organization, and their PK was the best.

If he ran the Devils PK this last year, it looks really good. He also has the credentials to push Boyle on the defensive side of his game and possibly some on puck sharing. Robinson is a teacher which should help Braun, Vlasic and Burns.

I wouldn't put him as far over the top as Clowe/Boyle. All out fire breathers have a short shelf life as coaches and usually leave a mess (eg Keenan). Robinson hasn't left messes.

TM isn't at all like Marleau. TM is very neutral in a very studied way. TM's mode can make for a good shelf life. I think of Marleau as a bit more positive.

I did notice "associate" as opposed to "assistant" which probably means more $ and a higher ranking in terms of the other ACs and in relation to the players.

Heh. I was thinking the exact same thing.

Incase TMac screws it up .. it would be a lot better to hand the reigns of the team to an experienced coach rather than tweedle-dee and/or tweedle-dum.

Robinson spoke w/ Steve Yzerman about work in Tampa, but Doug Wilson, long-time Larry friend, made an impressive pitch for Sharks

Well he did play for the Kings so its obvious that is where his child(ren) decided to stay. And his grandkids to boot. Great signing. Now, lets see what he can do to help the Sharks.

Assume McLellan will be experiencing post-concussion related issues throughout the season.

Larry Robinson is a 9-time Stanley Cup champion: 6 with ‪#Habs‬; 1 as head coach, 1 asst coach, 1 consultant w/ ‪#NJDevils‬

Dave Stubbs ‏@Dave_Stubbs
‪#SJSharks‬ showed huge interest in Robinson when they learned he was interested in continuing his coaching career ‪#Habs‬

Dave Stubbs ‏@Dave_Stubbs
Just off phone w/ Larry Robinson. "You caught me 6 1/2 minutes after I signed." He's thrilled w/ new job as Sharks associate coach

Dave Stubbs ‏@Dave_Stubbs
Robinson & wife Jeannette have been in SJ for a few days. He's impressed by coach Todd McLellan: "First impressions are important to me"

Most people in hockey tend to be. Now if only he can win back the message board posters his career would be complete

An unfortunate answer to fear the finns question. But who knows...

Devils fans: has Larry Robinson been running the penalty kill the past few seasons?

I got a little bummed when I saw that too, but it's not like he was completely oblivious to their PK system. I think that's what DW is bringing him on for. The fact that he was on the bench for last seasons #1 PK and hopes to bring the fundamentals of that to our team

Big Bird doesn't want to be a HC anymore IIRC.

Anyway terrific addition for you guys, he's a terrific hockey mind and a great mentor for your defensmen. I'm really jealous as a Habs fan.

Don't worry - here is something that may cheer you up!

Todd Cordell ‏@ToddCordell
@fearthefin @air807 Robinson has had input. He essentially runs the entire defense.

Robinson's had a long enough career to know what makes for a good system for the PK among other facets of the game. What will probably happen is that the other guys will create the foundation of the x's and o's and Robinson will be the refiner of it. If anything, he will be vastly useful for the blue liners especially Demers, Braun, and Vlasic.
