The worst Robinson could do is take the Sharks PK from 29th to 30th.

I'm pretty stoked on the upside.

I can't wait to hear this explained.

Brodie Brazil ‏@brodiebrazilCSN

Interesting to note: Robinson seems to assume title of 'associate' coach, instead of assistant. #sjsharks expected to announce

Not sure what to make of this. I have never heard of Associate coaches before.

No clue but the Wings have one too. So I guess it's just DW being DW and following Holland.

Associate coach usually signifies a more prestigious role, more responsibilities, higher salary etc. Head coach's right hand man.

The only difference is responsibilities and pay scale. Associates are supposed to have a higher amount of both than assistants.

Associate coach title is usually a form of respect for a respected coach on a team with a young coach.

Although this doesn't happen everyday it isn't that rare.

I'm pretty sure it is just meant to make the pecking order obvious to the players

As long as he has authority over Woodcroft and Shaw, we're good.

Not the name I was expecting to hear, but this is nothing but great news for the Sharks.

Montreal Gazette reporting that Larry Robinson will be new #sjsharks associate coach. Expect him to handle the PK. Two year deal.

Prediction: Larry Robinson will be the Head Coach of the San Jose Sharks by 31 January 2013.

Solid pick up, smart by DW. Pressure's on TMac now...

Doubt it. I don't think he wants to be a head coach and besides if the Sharks are sucking he will be just as culpable being the "associate coach" unless there's infighting between him and Todd, which I doubt will happen.

When people talk about firing a head coach and replacing him with his assistant what they're really saying is the assistant coach had all the answers but didn't bother to tell anyone...

I didn't know he was available. Why would he leave the Devils?

To be able to spend more time with his grandkids appears to be the answer.

Which, oddly enough, happened with Larry Robinson at the turn of the millennium. lol

"It just seems that way when he makes average defensemen play well beyond expectations; or when his enthusiastic demeanor and demands of accountability help turn good teams into great ones."

He got both ends, right? Was hired at the very end of a season and won the Cup, and then was fired at the very end of next season, right?

Actually, no. The next season, he coached them to a finals loss and then in the middle of the stretch run the season after that is when he got canned. He came back for more after the lockout and got canned again in the first season then Lou took over the rest of the way. lol
