Giroux's going to get a career contract from the Flyers long before his current deal expires.

not giving offer sheets are really an unspoken rule in hockey, the flyers didn't offer one to tampa last year for stamkos so i doubt they send one shea's way

Crap, I think it would be a good idea to get that Giroux extension done first! Even if they have no intention of sending an offer sheet to Weber, it would still make sense to do it now because it might be harder to get done in the new CBA.

Because they came to the conclusion that it wouldn't have worked.

But they did send one to Kessler in 2006.

It depends on how they read the situation.

06 Kessler was a different player. I don't think any star player other than Thomas Vanek has ever been offer sheeted....right?

Joe Sakic (Rangers; 1997). But not under the current CBA.

Please correct me if I am wrong but if weber were to sign an offer sheet and the preds match don't they have to commit to the exact deal that is signed?

So if a team offered weber 30+ mil in the 1st calendar year the preds would have to accept those terms as well when they match.

If so, do they have the financial capabilities to do this?

Yes, they would have to match the terms, and yes, by most accounts, they would match a long-term deal, even one with 26 million over the first 366 days (the maximum allowed).

The only offer sheet that Nashville might not match is a one-year deal, depending on the $--because it would prevent them from trading him should he fail to agree to an extension. Any other offersheet, for any other amount of money, over any other term, more than likely does get matched.

1 year 26M would be suicide for any team. Honestly, I don't even think Gretzky in his prime could pull that out of his ass.

It's not annual salary. It's one year's full salary and a signing bonus on the first day of the next year. The maximum annual salary is $14.04 M. Parise and Suter are both getting $22 M in a year + a day, and needless to say they are nowhere near Gretzky.

As for the rest of it, what jeh said.

Would love to see Weber in a Flyers jersey, supposedly he's not happy that he lost his defense partner (Suter) and isn't happy with Nashville right now. What would he cost though?

One of Couturier, L. Schenn, or Voracek

+

One of Meszaros, L. Schenn, or Coburn

+

Draft pick(s)

I think there's a pretty clear consensus, both here and on Nashville's board, that the deal would include two roster players--a plurality of Predators fans preferred B. Schenn + L. Schenn to Couturier + Meszaros or Voracek + Coburn, for whatever that's worth.

Look at the Pronger deals as a general precedent. The Flyers don't have star-caliber prospects in their system (not counting Schenn, who's only a prospect by HF's criteria). It's going to take young assets off the roster to get it done.

What do you think a reasonable trade offer looks like?

It's not just the trades to get Weber but his salary is going to be huge to keep him.

So, again, what would you trade to get him (that you think Nashville might reasonably accept)?

depends if they want D or not (remember this is probably the best d man in the league) so i would say at least

both schenns couter and a first

if they dont want a D

brayden jake couter and a first

and our first rounders are not worth that much considering we usually pick after 20

and im not even sure i would trade weber for any of those deals

If the flyers offered any of those deal, I would quit watching hockey this instant. Thats just dumb on a different level.

Also (at flyersfanz), if you don't have the time to read back a few pages, then don't expect anyone to put any effort into responding to you.
