Zajac would be a great fit but after losing Parise I think New Jersey is going to be doing everything to keep him around. Even overpaying.

True, but I guess it depends if he wants to help bail out that sinking ship or move on to something else.

I think New Jersey would be extremely interested in Sam Gagner after Parise's departure. Not quite the same calibre, but a smart offensive player nonetheless. I think there can be a deal done involving Gagner, Peckham, and a 2nd round pick for Anton Volchenkov. Might even be willing to add Olivier Roy or Omark.

Whitey Volchenkov

That is an overpayment for an overpaid, one-dimensional d-man, who is not nearly the player he was as a Senator.

If we're unable to get a Bouwmeester-level defender via trade this offseason, I'd like to see them take a chance on Carlo Colaiacovo on a one or two year deal. He's well known to be a band-aid but he's proven he's good for at least 60 games a year and we've got the depth to fill the other 20 if need be.
Agreed. Colaiacovo is a pretty decent, underrated defenseman who has the ability to play in nearly all situations, and we could probably get him on a short term deal if all other attempts at a defenseman fail.

“@fan960walker: Brandon Prust says the #Flames, #Oilers, #Preds, and #Rangers were all interested in his services July 1. *In the end, he chose the #Habs”

Interesting, I wonder where we were planning on slotting him?

He could have done better, but could also have done worse.

They probably wouldn't have signed Hordichuk if they signed Prust.

Prust was saying on the radio that another team (or two) offered more money than Montreal but he went with the overall package (city, team, management, gf being French, etc). Said that Montreal showed him they wanted him the most. That's crazy considering that he signed for $2.5M/yr.

*poof* replaced.

Seriously, Eager on the 2nd line wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Eager could help take care of Gagner and Yakupov.

@InsideTheRink is saying the Oilers are very interested, but I don't know if he/she is anymore reliable than TreenasOil.

That twitter account is worse than TreenasOil. They are both very terrible.

But obviously the Oilers are interested. It's common sense really.

Except he doesn't know his role well enough to know when he has to step up for his teammates so I doubt he would do much except for hold that line back offensively.

Well I don't think they are reliable, but really this isn't news. A lot of teams are very interested in Doan, just like Suter and Parise.

Does this get us anywhere close to weber?

Hemsky, Gagner, Whitney, Klefbom, 2013 1st.

Keep in mind any team can talk to him right now, so we would know if we could sign him before making the trade.

That's a disgusting, vomit-inducing overpay you have there.

2 1sts + 2nd + 3rd gets us close to Weber.

I don't want to get involved in chasing Weber if the price is anywhere close to what you posted. That is far, far more than what we got when we traded away a better d-man in Pronger.
