Quote:
Tom Sestito and his agents, Norton Sports Management, have both announced via twitter that the 6′-5″, 230 lb. forward has agreed in principle to the qualifying offer from the Philadelphia Flyers. The offer is for $605,000 for one year.

“Just have to sign the deal and it’s all done, excited to be back in Philly and get the season started,” wrote Sestito on his twitter account.

Sestito figures to compete for a bottom six role next October, and should have ample competition against the likes of Jody Shelley, Zac Rinaldo, Ben Holmstrom and Eric Wellwood. Sestito played in just 14 games with the Flyers last season, which prematurely ended for him after pulling his groin in a fight.
From CSN:

Sestito agrees to deal
Forward Tommy Sestito on Monday agreed to a one-year deal with the Flyers worth $605,000. He has not yet signed the contract, however.

Nice. Should be Shelley's replacement eventually.

The line with Rinaldo and Sestito as wingers was so tough on the other team. They come out, dump it in, punish the other teams D. As long as Rinaldo and Sestito can limit their penalties, I think them with possibly Talbot in the middle could be the toughest line to play against in the league. Or even Fedotenko

Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek (Hopefully RW is upgraded to Doan/trade)
Read-Schenn-Briere
Talbot-Couturier-Simmonds

Love the Sestito train. He def. should have a spot on the 4th line.

Hope he sees a lot of time with the Flyers. He's got some decent skill. Plus his size and physicality is much needed.

yeah he was pretty effective last year when the opposition wasnt laughing at him.

sorry. i dont like him. He does nothing for me. he doesnt have any hockey skill, unless you call trying to put a player into the 5th row skill. he takes stupid penalties, brings none to little offense to the table and hes another player likely to be suspended before the season starts.

The only problem there is Rusty isn't a C and Talbot really isn't either. He can technically play the position but he kind of sucks at it. Otherwise I agree, I wouldn't mind seeing them find a legit C who can play on the 4th line and win draws, and be kind of a "crash line" and soften up the other team's D. With the defensive responsibility you'll likely have on the 3rd line with Talbot and Couts you could get away with a 4th line that's more of a physical group than a trio of defensive specialists.

The only issue is Sestito is not waiver exempt, so he would need to clear in order to be sent down (like last year).

there is no need to have Shelley(not getting bought out), Rinaldo and Sestito on the pro roster.
Sestito is likely headed back to ADK.

Whenever I read HF I find myself typically disagreeing with your posts. But on this I am right with you. Dont want them on the team. At least give Holmstrom or Testwuide a shot IMO.

Flyers don't need a heavy weight in every game. I'll gladly take him over Shelley especially since he'll be about 500k cheaper but i dont see him as an every day player. For an everyday 4th liner I would much prefer someone like Testwuide over Sestito.

he was great on hte 4th line last year and is more deserving of a spot than Shelley

People love the guy because hes big. Would I rather him then Shelley? well obviously because he is younger and a better cap hit.
I just dont think hes a good hockey player. He is aleady viewed as a repeat offender by the NHL so hes likely wont get any breaks from the officials.

Agreed.

I don't quite get the fascination with Sestito some have around here. He had two good games last year (Dallas and Boston), but other than that didn't show much to convince me he's an NHL regular. Rinaldo was a much more efficient player, imo. Also, Wellwood will have to have a terrible camp to be left out of the team, I believe. Even if we won't sign any more players (I'm still hoping for one more forward signing) I think Sestito will have a hard time to take a place with the Flyers.

Hartnell-Giroux-Brière
Simmonds-Schenn-Voracek
Fedotenko-Couturier-Read
Wellwood-Talbot-Rinaldo
Shelley

something like that perhaps... Holmstrom and Sestito are probably the two biggest challengers for a spot. I wouldn't mind it if Holmstrom forced his way onto the team as the fourth line center actually.

He tried to decapitate Steve Kampfer (I think it was Kampfer) last season and just missed; he would have received a nice long suspension for that one.

He doesn't inpsire confidence that he won't do something like that in the future. He plays fairly reckless hockey, so hopefully he doesn't get many minutes with the big club this season.

I agree, no need for the all meathead line.

Except when we play the Pens, we should have two cement head lines.

I love Sestito. He makes the games even more interesting, with the hits and after whistle scrums. Not a great fighter, but he still has a presence on the ice.

After seeing his pathetic attempts at trash talking during the Winter Classic I can't help but laugh at the guy.

I know everyone is so scared to have fighters out there because they aren't going to score many goals or make great defensive plays, but they serve a purpose when they are playing their role properly. As long as you aren't throwing Sestito and Rinaldo out there against Malkin (or his equivalent), those guys will be very difficult to play against. If you make it difficult for teams to play against you by playing physically, you have a edge. Now, if you are just going crazy and getting suspended it is not a good plan. But if Rinaldo and Sestito were on the same line, and playing under control, it wouldn't be a bad thing. Rinaldo played his role pretty damned well last year and Sestito, despite the criticism, can play a little hockey. He's not going to win the Art Ross, but he's better than your prototypical enforcer (see: Shelly, Jody).
