I actually feel a little frazzled this morning over the lack of a big (and appropriate/beneficial/etc.) move. I've felt impatient for days, but if you follow golf I'm starting to pull a Kevin Na in DW's direction: "Pull the trigger!!" I think getting Semin, Doan or Luongo could all be good moves. We could also get a solid third line LW + if we were to trade Niemi (say Bergenheim from FLA?) I just have a serious appetite for action. I don't want a move just for the sake of a move, but I don't think anyone disagrees that something needs to happen.

I agree that we need some changes in the top-6. And I am annoyed with the lack of a big-splash from the Sharks so far.
- I actually think Semin would be a good addition to the top-6. All up for that providing the contract is reasonable.
- I am still not 100% sold on what Doan would bring to our top-6. He is past his prime and we have enough leadership of our own in the team. He would be an upgrade over the likes of a Clowe if he can play LW on the 2nd line. But I still do not think that is the step in the right direction for our future.
- Luongo's contract is evil. Do not want.
- If we trade Niemi who would start in goal? I like Greiss but he has never started more than 19 games in a season. On the flip-side though, I would be ok splitting time with Greiss and Stalock/Sateri to give them a chance. Would I be confident with Greiss/Stalock/Sateri? Hell, no! But I would be excited to see them play.
I am just hoping that DW is working on a big trade in the background. And not Nash. I want him but not for the price Howsen is asking. Couture is out of the question. Pavs .. maybe for a straight swap .. but I am not adding. I am hoping that DW pulls a big trade out of nowhere and lands us a good winger for something around Clowe/Murray.

What?! Look, he thinks he's people!
So what is it we need now? Two wingers or two 3rd line forwards depending on how the lines are rolled right?
Bare minimum we need a 13th forward, and that assumes that both Handzus and Sheppard make the starting lineup. I think most people hope that the sharks add at least 1 3rd line forward going forward, preferably one with offensive ability because we lack a proven scoring 3rd/4th liner.
Listening to Drew on Puck Daddy's show right now. He feels Doan would be great on the Sharks. Notes that Everyone in the West is getting better and anyone associated with the Sharks should be scared to death right now.
He also says that Corey Schwab needs to be the full-time goalie coach because Niemi plays better when hes around.
Vlasic - Burns
Stuart - Boyle
Murray - Braun
Demers
Niemi
Greiss
We have about 5.5m in cap space and a full time minus a 3rd line winger. The problem is that it just FEELS like a middling team to me when I look at it. Our 3rd line is both incomplete and anchored by a god-awful Handzus. The 4th line looks ok, but the top two lines are slow, and were fairly ineffective last year. The Defense looks solid, but not 'over the top' enough to make up for the rest of the team. We have an average/good starting goalie, and a backup on a 1 year deal.
It just feels like a LOT of 'meh' to me. There is nothing about that roster that stands out and says "This team is going to contend for the cup". I just don't see it, I'm not trying to be negative, I just can't look at that roster and convince myself it's cup worthy.
Also something to consider, our potential call ups are:
Forwards:
Hamilton
Oleksuk
Stalberg
McCarthy
Mashinter
McLaren
Defense:
Irwin
Petrecki
Tennyson
Acolatse
Goal:
Stalock
Sateri
Not a promising group of forwards, no top-6 talent among them period. Defense has some potential, and some excellent options in goal.
So, all that said, what would I do at this point? Remaining somewhat realistic...

Dear HB,
Can you please fax/email/telegraph/morse code this to Mr. Wilson ASAP?
Thank you.

Seriously though, I would be totally ok with something like that.
no idea what to give for wilson. i was thinking a forward prospect+ 2nd this year, but cant decide on the prospect. i dont want it to be hamilton, so im leaning towards Nieto, as wilson is still very young.

I think a Greiss/Stalock tandem would be good enough to make us playoff contenders, and as we all know you just have to get in the dance. If things look shaky in the first part of the season we could always trade for a more NHL ready goalie.
HB, interestingly enough I've been thinking a lot about the possibility of getting Evander Kane on the team and how much we would have to give up. It would be interesting to see if DW can pull a trade that would get him over here.
Didn't the rumors about him wanting to leave proved false by his agent?
I actually think Semin would be a good addition to the top-6. All up for that providing the contract is reasonable.
As others have mentioned, just imagine him flanking Thornton on the first line. I think that could be lethal.

I think he's got at least two good seasons left in him. If it were between us signing Semin or Doan I'd pick Semin every single time, but if Semin wanted more than was reasonable I think Doan could help a lot. He'd be a great leader and should put up respectable numbers. I still don't feel like he'll sign in SJ, though. With so many suitors I doubt DW would massively overpay for him.

That's true. I'll address the goaltending thing in my next comment.

Yeah, I think platooning Greiss and Stalock could work out. Sateri could definitely fight for one of those spots as well.

Agree for sure. I'm pretty confident DW won't outbid some other GM with a really stupid overpayment. Maybe he'll even bluff someone else a bit and make them believe he's gonna give up a ton, thus making them do just that to one-up him. That'd be great if we saw some of the DW that offer-sheeted Hjalmarsson and all that.

Any trade involving Webber would have to include Couture and whatever else the Sharks wanted to add to make up some of the salary. All in all I don't see this trade working out.
Sharks can barely afford to give up one top six much less than two and making a trade and assuming you would be able to sign an FA is madness. The FA would have to be signed first.
I don't think Couture plus Murray would cut it.... Not enough cap space going the other way.
Any trade involving Webber would have to include Couture.
No it would not. He has one year on his contract ffs. They can't even use allowing a team to negotiate an extension as part of the deal since any team can regardless, without telling them, and could be kept completely a secret.
He's a 1 year rental, an awesome 1 year rental, but still a 1 year rental as far as trade value goes. Couture is not part of any deal.
